Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Pearls. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Pearls, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
Well it started off when I was in high school, 10th grade to be specific. I always loved the idea of being independent and being able to have my own. I use to apply for jobs but none of them ever wanted to hire me, I was 15 at the time so maybe my age played a role. So I started thinking like “hey I know how to sorta do hair so why not profit from it?”. So I began servicing girls who use to live in my neighborhood, crazy thing is I was literally charging a ver low price per person. I didn’t care tho, I was just so happy to be able to make my own money but of course as time went by I increased my price. However, things were just not moving as fast as I wanted it to. I wasnt getting alot of customers, so by my 12th grade year in high school I told myself that once I graduated I would just go to college & get a career. I ended up going to college to major in criminal Justice so that I could become a police officer. I ended up only going to college for 3 months & then I dropped out because I realize it just wasn’t for me & the pay as a police officer couldnt afford the lifestyle I wanted to live. From there, I told myself well since I’m not pursuing a career now & I can’t work a regular job, I now have to give my hair business everything I got & from there that’s when I took off with it.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Pearls, I am a Hairstylist located in Lauderdale Lakes. I specialize in full Sew -In & Quick weaves. I love making all of my clients feel beautiful & confident after servicing them & I feel as tho that is my number one priority to be able to. When it comes to my brand I’m all about being different & providing services that stands out or that are one of a kind until it becomes a trend. I want each client to feel unique and different in their own special way.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson that I had to unlearn was thinking it’s healthy and ok to overwork myself when running a business. I had a long moment when I use to work from 6AM-11pm, 7 days a week because I was so dedicated and watching my income climb from it gave me excitement to do it even more. It wasn’t until after a while I had to look at things differently & be smart. It’s ok to work hard & be dedicated to something but make sure you have balance. Don’t overwork yourself to where you don’t have time for anything else because then that becomes imprisonment…. & what’s the point of working so hard if you’ll never have time to enjoy what you’re working so hard for?

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
One of the best strategies I’ve used for growing clientele was promoting different type of hairstyles. As someone who is in the beauty industry, I’ve learn that women love to feel special and different & they are very competitive when it comes to looks. Therefore, if im able to create a hairstyle that no other hairstylist has done or was able to fully achieve, clients would quickly gravitate towards me because they’d want to be the first one with it or so they can feel special and different.
