Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Pearl Kim. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Pearl, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The project “If a snack falls from the sky” that I worked on with Korean magician Jung Sung-mo is the most significant one that I have ever come across. In my childhood, he was one of the more well-known magicians in Korea and belongs to the first generation of magicians.
I saw his performance when I was ten years old, and I got to see his once or twice a year after that. As a devoted Christian, he always concluded his performances with a gospel message presented through the magic show.
I had a dream of being someone who makes others happy and entertained after watching his performance, even though some people might think magic is just a simple trick to cheat on someone. I thus prayed as I saw his performance. As an adult, I would like to play on the same stage with him.
During my time in college, I reconnected with him on social media and received an opportunity to participate on his performance. My role as an actress was to perform together in a children’s drama magic show. It was a moment my prayer I had back in my childhood got answered finally. I took a part with the show called “If a Snack Drops From the Sky” all throughout Korea, and it was a really worthwhile experience for me to work as an entertainer for the first time in my life.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I came to study film in the United States. Attending film schools, I acquired education on a variety of subjects such as like acting and production even HMU part. I produced several student films with my buddies, which led to a lot of company queries regarding commercials. I created commercials for a variety of businesses, such as electronic money providers, women’s clothes retailers, and real estate firms.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
First of all, I put a lot of effort into creating works that satisfy clients, and I am most satisfied when the outcomes they demand are obtained. In addition, I strive to deliver meaningful messages through my own art works as a creative. I wish the message would be filled with inspiration and strength for all those who endure each day.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
The film industry has undergone significant transformation. There are fewer people watching movies in theaters these days, and streaming services provide access to a wide range of entertainment. Instead of visiting theaters, enjoying movies at home has become more popular. The venues for indie and short films have substantially declined as a result of this move. Are we not in Los Angeles, the film industry’s birthplace? I’m hoping that movie nights in cafes and shopping centers will get more regular. By hosting these events, local business owners appear to be supporting filmmakers and attracting in more revenue in a mutually beneficial way. Regularly screening short films in cinemas or on streaming services would be wonderful. Like “Modern Love,” which streams short films on Amazon Prime according to their episodes. Short film viewing will undoubtedly be in demand. I believe that viewers of short films are undoubtedly in demand. The public’s access to short film screenings is severely restricted, nevertheless. short films will have a different distribution issue than feature films, thus I expect to see additional distributors that package and screen more of them.
The necessity for greater works to be presented grows as we live in a time when emotions and the humanities are becoming less relevant due to world changes.
