We recently connected with Peach Girl and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Peach, thanks for joining us today. Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
As a Black woman, I feel like I have been riddled with stereotypes my entire life. We are often misunderstood, mischaracterized, and placed into boxes. I never liked the idea that people saw us as aggressive, strong, or loud, especially when those traits are so often framed with a negative connotation. I always felt I was the exact opposite of that, and I didn’t want to be seen in that light.
While expressing myself, I wanted to challenge the idea that Black people—specifically Black women—are not a monolith. That is one of the reasons I decided to create my own persona based on a character I love and admire, called “blackprincesspeach.” I have always loved Princess Peach as a character because she is soft, feminine, and elegant. Those were qualities I wanted to align myself with because I felt they more so reflected who I am.
Growing up, I didn’t see much representation in the media for girls who looked like me and shared those same traits and characterizations. And I knew there were other Black girls who felt the same way. Creating this online persona, inspired by something I genuinely love, has allowed me to express myself while also giving others something they can relate to and admire.
It means a lot to me that I’ve been able to inspire other Black girls throughout the years. I’ve also had people from many different races and ethnicities tell me that what I’m doing is important and much needed. Through cosplay and building a brand, I’ve realized that people from all walks of life will support you when you are true to yourself and authentic. That has been one of the most meaningful lessons of my journey.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Peach, although many people online know me as blackprincesspeach. I am a content creator, streamer, cosplayer, 3D artist, and portrait painter. Creativity has always been at the center of my life, and over the years I’ve been fortunate enough to turn the things I love most—gaming, art, and cosplay—into my career.
I have been cosplaying for around 15 years now, and it’s a joy cosplaying the characters I used to look up to. I love being a princess, but I also love becoming my favorite video game characters. Video games have always been a huge part of my life. Growing up, gaming was more than just entertainment for me—it was a source of inspiration, creativity, and comfort. It’s always been a fun way for me to bond with others. I always knew that I wanted to work in a creative field, and I’ve spent my life finding different ways to express myself through art. I studied game design in college, where I focused on 3D modeling and character design, particularly surrounding the topic of identity. Alongside that, I have always worked as a traditional artist and portrait painter.
Representation has always been the driving force behind everything I do. Whether it’s my cosplay, artwork, streams, or character design work, I am constantly exploring themes of identity, self-expression, and visibility. I want people to see themselves reflected in the things I create, especially people who may not often see themselves represented in gaming, media, or fandom spaces.
One of the reasons I created my online persona, blackprincesspeach, was because I wanted to challenge stereotypes while embracing something I genuinely loved. Growing up, I always admired Princess Peach and other hyperfeminine characters. She embodied qualities that resonated with me—softness, femininity, elegance, and grace. I didn’t see many characters who looked like me being portrayed in that way, and I knew there were others who felt the same. Creating my own persona allowed me to combine my love for gaming with my desire to create representation and build a community around authenticity.
Today, I create content across multiple creative disciplines. As a streamer, I primarily focus on retro gaming, which is one of my greatest passions. I love sharing classic games with my audience and introducing people to the titles that helped shape my love for gaming. I also stream my art process from time to time, allowing people to see the creative work that goes into my projects. Beyond streaming, I create cosplay content, attend conventions, sell merchandise inspired by my brand, and collaborate with companies, conventions, and organizations within the gaming, cosplay, and entertainment space.
My 3D artwork is heavily inspired by the games and aesthetics I grew up loving. I am particularly drawn to the PlayStation 2 era, Y2K aesthetics, retro gaming culture, and stylized character design. Character creation is one of my favorite artistic outlets because it allows me to tell stories about identity and self-expression. In my traditional artwork, I love portrait painting and often draw inspiration from Renaissance art while incorporating modern themes and diverse representation. I love painting faces, capturing personality, and creating pieces that make people feel seen and celebrated.
What sets me apart from others is that I have never fit neatly into any box. I’ve never been the typical person, and I don’t necessarily fit the expectations people may have based on how I look or who they think I should be. I love gaming, feminine aesthetics, the color pink, alternative fashion, cosplay, game development, beauty, and different genres of art. Rather than trying to choose one identity, I’ve embraced all of them. I think that authenticity is one of the biggest strengths a creator can have, and I’ve built my entire brand around being unapologetically myself.
More than anything, I believe my community is what makes my work special. I have worked hard to cultivate a wholesome, welcoming, and inclusive environment where people can bond over their shared love of gaming, cosplay, and self-expression. Whether someone joins one of my streams, follows my content online, purchases my artwork, or meets me at a convention, I want them to feel like they belong. I’ve always believed that fandom spaces should be accessible to everyone.
What I am most proud of is how far I’ve come. I didn’t grow up with much, and much of what I have today was built through persistence, creativity, and hard work. I essentially created something from nothing and turned many of my challenges, struggles, and painful experiences into motivation. Being able to transform my passion into a full-time career is something I never take for granted.
One of the most rewarding parts of my journey has been hearing from people who have been inspired by my work. I’ve had Black girls tell me that seeing me cosplay characters they loved gave them the confidence to cosplay themselves. I’ve had creators tell me that my work inspired them to continue creating content or pursue their artistic goals. I’ve even had people I looked up to become peers and my friends over the years. Those moments mean more to me than any follower count or accomplishment.
The biggest thing I want people to know about me and my brand is that I believe anyone can become who they want to be. I don’t believe there is one correct way to express yourself, create art, enjoy your interests, or exist in the world. I want people to know that they should never let anyone tell them they can’t do something because of who they are, what they look like, or where they come from. Representation really does matter.
At the end of the day, being creative is what I feel I was always meant to do. I love becoming the characters I admired as a child through cosplay. I love creating artwork that helps people feel seen. I love building communities through streaming and cosplaying. I love collaborating with talented people and sharing my passion with others. Most importantly, I love showing people that there is power in embracing exactly who you are. That message will always be at the heart of everything I create.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative and an artist is hearing how much I have inspired other people. Whether it’s someone telling me they were touched by my work, inspired to start creating themselves, or motivated to keep going during a difficult time, these moments mean everything to me. Knowing that I’ve had a positive emotional impact on someone’s life, uplifted them, or encouraged them to pursue their own dreams is ultimately my greatest accomplishment.
That has always been my goal as a content creator, and it’s the reason I started my platform in the first place. From the very beginning, I approached content creation with the intention of inspiring others and creating a space where people felt seen, encouraged, and accepted. Over the years, I have been incredibly grateful for the amount of support I’ve received, and I am truly honored that so many people have connected with and embraced my vision.
Whenever someone tells me that my content meant something to them or gave them the confidence to be themselves, it serves as a reminder that I am doing exactly what I am supposed to be doing. These interactions reinforce my purpose and motivate me to continue creating.
I love meeting my supporters in person and engaging with my community. Building a community has been rewarding in so many ways because it has allowed me to form genuine connections with people who share similar passions and values. There is something incredibly special about seeing people come together through shared interests.
As artists, we share pieces of ourselves with the world, and that can be a very vulnerable thing to do. That’s why it’s so affirming when people not only see your work, but also connect with it, understand it, and find meaning in it. I love knowing that my art, message, and experiences resonate with others.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
To be honest, when I first created my social media accounts, I never intended to become an influencer or content creator. I was simply having fun and sharing things I genuinely enjoyed—my outfits, makeup, and personal style. People started connecting with it, and it gained traction much faster than I ever expected.
I think that when you present yourself authentically, whether you realize it or not, people naturally gravitate toward you and become invested in your story. Once I started taking content creation more seriously and treating it like a career rather than just a hobby, that’s when I really began to see things take off and opportunities started to grow.
One of the biggest pieces of advice I can give to someone who is just starting to build their social media presence is to be authentic. As a young artist, this was something that was constantly emphasized to me, and it has remained one of the most valuable lessons throughout my career. People can tell when you’re being genuine, and they can also tell when you’re not. Authenticity creates trust, and trust creates community.
It’s much more valuable to attract people who genuinely appreciate you for who you are than to build an audience around something that isn’t authentic to you. You want people in your community who support your vision, connect with your work, and appreciate the person behind the content—not just a version of yourself created for clicks or monetary gain.
I also believe that building a strong personal brand is incredibly important. I’ve spent many years developing and curating my brand, and it has helped people immediately recognize what I stand for. A strong brand helps differentiate you from others, highlights what makes you unique, and gives people something memorable to connect with. Whether it’s your style, your values, your creative work, or the message you share with the world, you want people to know exactly what makes you, you.
Most importantly, one should focus on creating quality work rather than chasing numbers. It’s easy to get caught up in follower counts, views, and engagement metrics, but those things are not the foundation of a lasting career. Focus on creating work that you’re proud of, improving your craft, and building meaningful connections with your audience. The growth will come naturally when people see your passion, consistency, and dedication.
