We recently connected with Paytron Saint and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Paytron thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I learned music from my parents. They were in bands. My first memories are of crawling around amongst guitar cables.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Nick Glyn-Davies and I sing and play in the band, Paytron Saint alongside Dean Lloyd and Dan Brigstock. I’m a drummer that decided to pick up a guitar to write songs with. It’s difficult to play drums on your own to much satisfaction and communicating using actual words seemed a little more direct. So I learned how to play power chords (and not much else), called some friends and plugged in. The music I love mixes noisy intensity with soulful beauty and that’s what we try to write. I couldn’t do it alone. Bands should always strive to be greater than the sum of their parts and Paytron Saint is no exception.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Support your local artists and creatives by using their products. This means listening to them, streaming and purchasing merchandise and attending their live shows. Support original music.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
The best illustration of my resilience, personally, is that I’ve been making music for thirty five years without making any money to speak of and I’m still doing it. Because I make music. That’s what I do.
As a band, we’ve been on this journey for the last seven years and we’re still on it.
