We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Payton Kennedy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Payton below.
Payton, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
One of the most meaningful projects that I’ve been blessed to be apart of, was a project from 2020. My homie Swavi had dm’ed me and I sent him some beats. They ended being two of the most streamed songs on the project. The first beat I sent him was a Batcave. Its one of my favorite beats Ive made. Tiny Pants And Ascots was also his first release on all platforms. We did over 100K streams by the end of the year, without any major label backing us or management. It really showed me I could do this music thing. I was still in high school. So for me being that young and making it happen blew my mind. I’m from Ohio. SWAVI from Florida. So for us to do what we did was amazing. I didn’t expect it. Everything changed for me after that. I’ve been working like crazy ever since. A lot of long days and late nights went in to the project.
Payton, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is P23OnThaBeat I make beats and engineer. I also make visual arts. I’ve always loved music since I was a kid it’s always been a major part of my life. I decided to start making music around 2016. My homies rap. I decided to start making beats and engineering so they didn’t have to pay someone else for beats and studio time. We started 3400 ENT, our record label. I make all kinds of music from rock to rap and hip hop. I mainly produce trap an rap beats. I try to give every artist I work with their own sound and help them further their careers in every way possible. I feel like what sets me apart from other producers is that I try and connect with every artist in some fashion, I try to help them get their best sound possible and let them be as great as they can be. I want anyone reading this to know that. If you work with me you’ll create some of your favorite projects or songs. One of my main goals with my music is to show people they can do it too. I want to be the motivation for the younger generation. And lead the right way. I feel like every body need some one to motivate them I hope I can be that for someone one day.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I started making music in 2016, I didn’t have much money so I couldnt afford an expensive set up. I made beats like that for about a year. Someone gave me a laptop and I got FL Studio. I worked like that for about 6 months or so, then my laptop crashed. I had to get it fixed. After it was fixed I started making beats on it again, and haven’t looked back ever since. I was running studio sessions off of my phone at first then I got my studio set up together.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My main goal with music is to make my family proud and leave a legacy behind me for everyone who wants to do something people say they can’t. I want to see the ones I love, happy and financially okay. I want to win a Grammy and become a legend in the music industry with everything I want to do. I want to own my own label, and sign the ones with a real dream and passion for music. I want to own property and run my own major studio. I want to make sure my friends win with me or without so we can all eat. And even if one of us falls we can pick them back up.
