We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Pavani Eathalapaka a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Pavani, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
My idea of starting my own food business started during my time in the UK a decade ago. After moving to Leander from the DFW area in 2022 I was unable to find any home based cooks who could provide healthy home cooked meals on an as needed basis. In 2023 I started exploring the idea of starting my own food catering business on a small scale. After joining the DeerBrooke WhatsApp community I realized that there was a market for home based cooks and that’s how my journey began.
Pavani, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m originally from the southern part of India and I’ve been living in the DFW area for the past few years. In 2022 we had to relocate to Austin because of my husband’s work. We moved into the Deerbrooke community located in Leander in spring 2022. After moving I joined community the community Cafeteria Whatsapp group where various local chefs sell their unique food preparations. As I always loved cooking and serving tasty food for my family and friends an idea sprung in my head about starting my own food catering LLC and that’s how Indian Delicacies LLC was born. Since I was taking care of toddler and didn’t have the time to pursue a full-time job, I felt that I could prepare food on my own schedule without having to stick to strict work deadlines. The whole objective was to provide good home cooked food like what I would prepare for my family and make it available to the community at affordable prices. I always try to use organic ingredients when possible and financially feasible to keep the prices down. The whole business proposition was not whether it would work but rather why not give it a try. As the old adage says “you never know until you try” was what drove me to start the LLC.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My reputation got built on providing tasty food with quality ingredients at an affordable price. The motto is to provide food that resembles and tastes like what your mom or you family would prepare for you. Maintaining consistency is a big thing that has helped me build a clientele where my customers know and expect good home cooked food.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clientele has been the word of mouth references from old clients to new ones. Quality food that I provide to my clients for parties helps spread the word. My existing clients that have tasted my food have been fiercely loyal and they helped in getting the word about my food
