We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Paulyae Dawkins. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Paulyae below.
Hi Paulyae, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
My album “The Feeling” is such a meaningful project to me because it stemmed from my inner light and awakening. During my solitude, God spoke to me and made me realize how beautiful it is to love yourself and be free from worry! All we need is ourselves; material things and relationships are secondary, NOT necessities! I unlocked this realization and decided to share this beautiful feeling with the world through my music, so that I could help others heal and feel the things I felt! (Hence the album title)
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I make music to help others! I take the experiences I’ve had and the feelings I’ve dealt with & use them to create music that is uplifting and empowering to those who need it! My goal is to help others understand that no matter how heartbroken you are or what you’ve endured, there is ALWAYS light at the end of the tunnel, and that light comes from choosing ourselves first and loving ourselves. There is so much freedom in realizing that YOU are all that you need. We create our own reality in that way, and that’s what my music embodies.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Taking an emotion, whether it be positive or negative, and turning it into a beautiful melody that’s catchy, fun, and uplifting! It makes all the pain and/or pleasure worth it! Using personal battles and eye-opening circumstances to make people smile and have hope is the most rewarding thing I could ever dream of doing.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
All feelings should be embraced. Not only happiness and excitement, but pain and heartache as well. It’s important to soak up these emotions and FEEL them FULLY in order to propel into creativity. Masking and suppressing emotions does nothing but hinder the creative process. Let the feelings be as raw as possible when they come. It’s ok to be extremely happy or extremely sad! Don’t contain it, because it breeds beautiful things.
