We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Pauly Povar a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Pauly , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
What makes my brand different from others is that my products are multi functional. I was initially inspired to create this multifunctional design for my bags because of previous bags I had bought and worn. I found them to be inconvenient in a lot of aspects of my life. Thats why I wanted to create a bag that could be used multiple ways not just one way. Bags are supposed to be convenient, we use bags so that are things are easily accessible. The PaulyJen bag is the perfect size, it can hold all the essentials while not looking bulky. Other bag designs don’t always have this quality and what is carried in the bag can sometimes be reflected in the overall look of it. The designs of my bags make it easy to be out doing are everyday activities while still maintaining that functionality. That being said I think the brand that I’ve created is unique to others because on top of being multifunctional my bags are comfortable and accessible. Function is extremely important to my brand and all my designs reflect that.

My name is Paulette Povar and my brand is called PaulyJen. I design luxury leather bags that are all designed and made in Los Angeles, California. The vision and creation behind the PaulyJen™ brand began in 2017. I left my career after losing my passion after 22 years of being in real estate to aspire back to my creative roots re-inventing myself as a designer of a growing Lifestyle and luxury leather accessory brand. From a very young age, my enthusiasm for interior design and fashion turned to creative innovation as I was in search to find that perfect everyday bag. My love for music and travel inspired me to design bags with having options, where practicality meets multi-functionality and simplicity chic using highly ethically sourced and extremely high quality materials. I am always looking for ways to improve the design of every day bags to make them more practical for the modern day woman on the go. Women love the PaulyJen™ concept of being able to choose their own combinations of belts and bags, my designs create options and the freedom to wear the bag as one sees fit. The simple, sleek designs are versatile, functional, and effortless. We tried to cover it all, so you can have the best PaulyJen™ experience.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been social media. Expanding all my social medica outlets and creating content to showcase my products, has really helped my brand gain a lot of exposure. Social media has also allowed me to establish a distinct clientele. I market my bags in a specific way so that it reaches the type of costumers I want to attract. In addition, expanding my brand into boutiques in California has helped me gain a lot of high volume exposure. Being highlighted for trunk shows and charitable events makes it easier for me to personally sell my product which gains me a lot of notoriety within the local community.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What’s really important for the brand is that it’s recognized for the quality of craftsmanship and the materials that are used to make the bag and accessories. All the materials are ethically sourced and are the highest quality. I really believe that people love to support small businesses that are made locally here in Los Angeles California. Being a local small business with locally sourced products has definitely helped my reputation. Consumers value quality especially when buying a luxury product. Knowing how the products are made and what they’re buying is essential for costumers, I am very transparent with my products and there overall quality. it’s important for me to have something that is of highest quality while still being unique at the same time. I just love sharing the whole experience of why I’m so passionate about the bags with people. When they see how passionate I am about my products they get a better understanding of how much hard work and dedication go into my designs. My reputation comes hand in hand with my passion for my products. How can people not love and trust in the bags when they see how much I do?
