We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Paulina Pulawska a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Paulina, appreciate you joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
When I initially created my Instagram page, it started as a ‘finsta,’ allowing me to post freely. Later, during my design studies, I transformed it into an art account. The usernames went from ‘cathedralofpleasure’ to ‘honeyflly,’ and eventually ‘pixellbug’ for a while. I retained ‘pixellbug’ temporarily, as it gained recognition, though it wasn’t my preferred username.
After brainstorming new usernames, I drew inspiration from my personality and design concepts, leading to the choice of ‘Delicate Type.’ This username reflects my delicate yet strong personality, with ‘Type’ inspired by typography and typing. The name implies both a delicate type of person and an appreciation for typography.

Paulina, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Paulina Pulawska, also known as Delicate Type on Instagram, I’m a Polish-American designer based in Michigan. My passion for graphic design began in high school during a multi-media class. I earned my design degree from Wayne State University and secured a job at an agency upon graduation.
During my transition to the professional field, I initiated the “365 Days of Posters” project on Instagram, designing and posting daily for a year. This endeavor served as a post-college design practice, honing my skills and building a portfolio.
Remarkably, the project garnered followers and positive feedback, leading to freelance opportunities. I collaborated with musicians such as Cece Coakley, Weezer, and Manchester Orchestra. Additionally, I launched an online shop featuring my posters, stickers, and postcards.
I take pride in completing the 365 project, which opened numerous doors and provided invaluable opportunities. I consider myself fortunate for the journey and the success it brought my way.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Countless online artists and designers inspire me greatly. Being part of an online community is truly rewarding, and I highly recommend it. You can forge friendships, build connections, and learn from peers in your field. There are no foolish questions, and I acquire knowledge from fellow designers, gaining inspiration, motivation, and insights into running and managing a creative business.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
