We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Paulina Manseau a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Paulina, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
In the film Industry having a steady income is not always easy, in fact, it is rather rare. I had to go figure out where my strengths as creative were and focus on those.
I always knew I wanted to be in the film industry, in any capacity and so I started as an actor. The joys of being a performer are many but waiting around to be cast and to be trusted with the material is not. I decided to create opportunities for myself by writing and creating my own content.
This inadvertently gave me tools as a producer, writer, and director which allowed me to explore another avenue of the path I loved. It was then that I was able to figure out that my strengths lie in logistics, pre-production and creation.
It was then that I was able to pad my resume with a long list of projects that I was creating myself.
Today I work full-time as a producer, strategizing content creation for businesses that lack the time and ability to create.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a first generation American with roots in Mexico. My passion has always been storytelling and I find it so rewarding to be able to be in an industry where my income is generated by the thing that fuels me. You will find me thriving when I am strategizing for my clients on how to best move their branding and business using the power of story and content.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Personally, the most rewarding thing as a creative is the content I get to create to propel businesses forward. A powerful story being told thru different mediums is such a stimulating and rewarding experience.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I feel my creative journey is pretty fluid but the end goal is always the same, to tell stories that makes us feel. Whether this is a story about a client or a product, the goal is to make the audience think and feel. This is the essence of what moves us and how a good story can have so much power.
