We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Paulette Jones a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Paulette, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
It was very important for me to create a business name that was uplifting and a clear indication of how I operate. Society usually gets caught up in watching and reading about celebrities and what they have going on but there are not many platforms highlighting and interviewing your every day entreprenuer and local talent.
Talk of Fame 101 “TOF101” was born out of my love for support and people. TOF 101 was created to share the gifts and talents of the underserved. Talk of Fame was used in hopes of giving hope, an uplifting statement, boldy claiming future success and fame for all businesses and creators we encounter. 101 because all of my interviews are arranged, scheduled and done on a 1 on 1 basis meaning I book directly with the source, no middle man, to ensure an immediate trusting connection and building an strong everlasting relationship.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Paulette L. A. Jones, formerly Carter. I was born and raised in Detroit, MI in a single-parent home. I grew up as an only child, and during my college matriculation, I became a big sister. I attended the illustrious Clark Atlanta University, where I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management specializing in Marketing. I am a wife and mother of three awesome boys. I LOVE PEOPLE!
Talk of Fame 101 was born in 2011 during my sophomore year at CAU. At the time I was a writer for a digital magazine called B Social which originated in Detroit, MI, and later decided that I wanted to branch out and start a magazine of my own, with the help and full support of the creator of B Social. Tof 101 started as a digital magazine where I used my platform to share information on several on-campus organizations and featured on-campus talent including radio hosts, comedians, etc. as well as on-campus entrepreneurs. I also interviewed local artists and a few celebrity artists (at the time).
Tof 101 now operates as an online directory that includes social media promotion on our platforms with an interview as an option, if interested. Our main goal is to assist our clients in sharing their business or talent with potential consumers.
What sets TOF apart from others is the fact that we focus on. the face and name behind the business and talent to create a personal connection between consumers and viewers before they commit to shopping with, booking, or supporting our clients. I personally prefer to spend money with businesses I tend to have knowledge about and feel connected to in some manner. I love to support creators that I feel connected to as well and so I keep that in mind when working with clients to help maximize that connection for them prior to connecting with the actual consumer.
I am most proud of our ability to create and sustain beautiful relationships with clients and build enough trust with our followers that they message or call us directly asking for trustworthy resources for all of their needs. Makes me proud! I’m also very proud to announce that we have expanded our services to now include photography!
I would like for everyone to know that we genuinely love to support others. We are not focused on gossip and portraying anyone in a negative light. Our only wish is to connect as many people as possible and share all of the amazing businesses and talents we come across.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I was able to build my social media audience through consistency. At the time I wasn’t posting every day nor utilizing every social resource but I was consistent with networking, building relationships, and making personal face-to-face connections. My YouTube channel began to grow significantly due to the popularity of the content I would post (a lot of interest in those who I would interview) and also due to my networking. I would follow everyone I met at events and in public and we would naturally support one another by looking out for content and helping to increase visibility.
I would advise consistency! Everything you do in life will require you to remain focused, driven and positive. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t see the numbers where you want them (i.e. a particular platform, if you prefer followers overviews or vice versa). Work very hard in the areas, you see your growth happening and continue to learn more about how others are succeeding in the areas you prefer to have growth but may be lacking. STUDY YOUR NICHE!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Not being afraid to talk to people. Having a bubbly spirit to approach someone and an inviting aura.
Everywhere I go I speak to people and compliment them and once that invitation for conversation has been opened I find ways to incorporate information about my business and how it can benefit them, without giving a sales pitch.
