We recently connected with Paula Natalia Aguirre Villalobos and have shared our conversation below.
Paula Natalia , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you tell us about an important lesson you learned in school and why that lesson is important to you?
Cuando era pequena siempre me interese por el arte, en cualquiera de sus expresiones. Me gustaba pintar y tomar fotos, cuando llego la hora en el colegio de tomar la decision de que tecnico iba a hacer, tenia una dos opciones, por un lado era un estudio de computacion, el cual era muy bueno en el mercado y por otro lado, estaba Comunicacion grafica, ay Dios, como me moria por estudiar algo que me gustaba, y que de una u otra manera tenia ques ver o estaba a fin con mi verdadera carrera.
Es entonces que los comentarios de algunos familiares no se hicieron esperar, haciendo referencia a que terminaria en la calle pintando en el piso o basicamente, no podria vivir de de diseno ni fotografia, pues tenia que escoger cosas que dieran dinero, como una ingenieria y demas.
Pero, en todo el proceso, yo creci viendo personas qaue odiaban su trabajo, creci viendo como viven aburridos de sus decisiones a cambio de dinero, desde ahi tome la decision que la vida es una, nadie va a venir a vivir y gozarla por mi. Vivo feliz y disfrutando de todo aquello que me decian que no podria.
When I was little I was always interested in art, in any of its forms. I liked painting and taking photos. When the time came at school to decide which technical field I was going to pursue, I had two options. On the one hand, I studied computing, which was very good on the market, and on the other hand, there was graphic communication. Oh God, how I was dying to study something I liked, and that in one way or another had to do with or was in line with my true career.
It was then that some family members’ comments were not long in coming, referring to the fact that I would end up on the street painting on the floor or basically, I would not be able to live off of design or photography, because I had to choose things that would make money, like engineering and so on.
But, throughout the process, I grew up seeing people who hated their jobs, I grew up seeing how they live bored of their decisions in exchange for money, from there I made the decision that life is one, no one is going to come to live and enjoy it for me. I live happily and enjoying everything that they told me I couldn’t.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hola, soy Paula, tengo 21 anos, estudie Comunicacion Social y Periodismo en la Universidad La Gran Colombia, soy de La capital colombiana. Siempre me ha fascinado las piezas graficas, por lo que tengo un proyecto con una amiga de la Universidad que busca sacar al mercado una productora.
Pero como todo es un proceso, este primer paso es el mio, una agencia de Diseno, publicidad, marketing digital y fotografia. Aqui ofezco toda la parte creativa y visual de una compania que quiera iniciar o que ya este en el mercado. Es en entonces que, me dedico a hacer un estudio de mercado a nivel visual para asi ofrecer mis servicios como diseno o rediseno de logo, diseno e impresion de business cards, creacion de manual de marca con colores corporativos y tipografia que luz y combine con lo que quiere representar la marca. Genero identidad de marca para pequenas y grandes empresas logrando posicionar en el mercado digital, es ahi donde entramos a la inmersion de las redes sociales, creo contenido para las marcas, les ayudo con fotografia, video y edicion para sus redes sociales.
Estoy orgullosa de mi proceso, realmente la confianza en uno mismo es lo primero y fundamental para cualquier inicio de negocio, yo tuve problemasz en la universidad, realmente, quede con muchosz vacios, porque la universidad no estaba lista para ofrecer una educacion de calidad, y aunque yo se que todo se aprende el campo, he tenido algunas frustraciones por conocimientos que he adquirido en la calle, no en la escuela. Al final, soy lo que se, soy el mundo y el saber de lo que he vivido.
Hello, I’m Paula, I’m 21 years old, I studied Social Communication and Journalism at the Universidad La Gran Colombia, I’m from the Colombian capital. I’ve always been fascinated by graphic pieces, so I have a project with a friend from the University that seeks to launch a production company on the market.
But since everything is a process, this first step is mine, a Design, advertising, digital marketing and photography agency. Here I offer all the creative and visual part of a company that wants to start or that is already on the market. It is then that I dedicate myself to doing a market study at a visual level in order to offer my services such as logo design or redesign, business card design and printing, creation of a brand manual with corporate colors and typography that looks and matches what the brand wants to represent. I create brand identity for small and large companies, achieving a position in the digital market. That’s where we enter into the immersion of social networks. I create content for brands, I help them with photography, video and editing for their social networks.
I am proud of my process. Self-confidence is really the first and fundamental thing for any business start-up. I had problems at university. I was left with many gaps, because the university was not ready to offer a quality education. And although I know that everything is learned in the field, I have had some frustrations due to knowledge that I have acquired on the street, not at school. In the end, I am what I know, I am the world and the knowledge of what I have lived.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Termine mi carrera a los 21 anos, desafortunadamente tuve que salir de mi pais por temas economicos de mi familia, lo que me llevo a cambiar y generar nuevos planes con un mismo fin, crear contenido trascendente que filme mi pais desde una mirada unica, objetiva y realista, por medio de una productora.
Para llegar a ello, fui consciente que debo trabajar en otras cosas antes, por lo que salir del pais me llevo a trabajar vendiendo fresas con crema, estar de mesera, pero asi mismo, trabajar ofreciendo contenido para restaurantes y cuando ya llegue aqui a estados unidos, descargue constairnes, trabaje acomodando platos y finalmente, conoci unos hombres, muy queridos ellos, me ayudaron con esta marca de Pixel Art y hoy trabajo con algo que estudie y hace parte de mis suenos, no ha sido un camino facil, salir de mi pais me duele, pero lo hago con buenos fines, aqui todo el mundo habla de hacer plata, yo hablo de dejar huella y ser feliz.
He llorado y fracasado muchas veces en muchos negocios, pero esta es mi oportunidad de crecer.
I finished my degree at 21 years old, unfortunately I had to leave my country due to economic issues with my family, which led me to change and generate new plans with the same goal, to create transcendent content that films my country from a unique, objective and realistic perspective, through a production company.
To get there, I was aware that I must work on other things first, so leaving the country led me to work selling strawberries with cream, being a waitress, but also working offering content for restaurants and when I got here to the United States, I downloaded constairnes, worked arranging plates and finally, I met some men, very dear to them, they helped me with this Pixel Art brand and today I work with something that I studied and is part of my dreams, it has not been an easy road, leaving my country hurts me, but I do it with good purposes, here everyone talks about making money, I talk about leaving a mark and being happy.
I have cried and failed many times in many businesses, but this is my opportunity to grow.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Sea sincero y piense como cliente, aqui en el mercado siempre el cliente tiene la razon, usted se acomoda a la necesidad del cliente y asi mismo genera fidelidad. Tener una empresa de contenido y diseno es dificil cuando hay hay muchas personas que consideran que no importa, pero no evidencian el deficit y las bajas que tienen en venta cuando no hacen uso de ellas.
Es entonces que la lealtad se respalda con educacion, yo educo al cliente, le enseno de su propia marca, le inspiro y lo llevo a ver como puede llegar a ser su empresa. No quiero que me vean como algo dificil, como un calculo de algebra que nadie entiende. Yo quiero que se sientan a gusto con su empresa porque el futuro de su empresa en el mercado es el trabajo mio.
Be honest and think like a customer. Here in the market, the customer is always right. You adapt to the customer’s needs and in this way you generate loyalty. Having a content and design company is difficult when there are many people who consider that it does not matter, but they do not show the deficit and the drop in sales that they have when they do not use them.
It is then that loyalty is backed up with education. I educate the client, I teach them about their own brand, I inspire them and I take them to see what their company can become. I do not want them to see me as something difficult, like an algebra calculation that no one understands. I want them to feel comfortable with their company because the future of their company in the market is my work.
