We were lucky to catch up with Paula Lynch recently and have shared our conversation below.
Paula, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Plumm Home was born out of a love of all things Vintage. From a young age my parents (Red & Dolores) were always shopping from garage sales and auctions to find the best deals to help clothe 9 kids and keep a beautiful home on a budget. Together with my daughter, Margaret, we started hunting for all of the best Vintage pieces around from every tag sale or auction we could find all over the state. We amassed an amazing collection that we were thrilled to share with the public. After a couple years of doing vintage shows and barn sales we decided to dive into a brick and mortar shop! We expanded our offerings to then include additional pieces from Small Businesses throughout Ohio and the US. The Small Business offerings we have include Women, LGBTQIA+, Veteran and other business that also give back. Our shop is located in a small but growing community and we are proud to create a Safe Space for all in our community!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Our main goal at Plumm Home is to create a warm, inviting and always original experience! We have so many customers that come and see something that sparks a memory and we get to share in the re-telling of their wonderful tale. We pride ourselves on being an adoption agency for Mid-Century Furniture and unique pieces and we love seeing them go to their forever homes where they can be loved for another generation. Breathing new life into these pieces and sharing the past with the future is the cornerstone of our shop!

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
During the pandemic we really had to pivot in our business. Originally when we opened Plumm Home we had a small website which was primarily used to lead people to our brick and mortar store. When the pandemic hit we quickly worked to build out our website. We added many of the vintage items in addition to the wonderful gift items we have from the small businesses. We also began offering a porch drop off service and curbside pickup. These tools helped to keep our business going throughout the shut down. With the timing of the shut down we had already purchased many gift items for Easter. We pulled together some social media and website marketing to create little Easter gifts for purchase that we would deliver to your porch and this was very successful!

How did you build your audience on social media?
Throughout our many years in business we have continued to evolve our social media presence. We have gone from just illustrating the many items we sell to explaining the story behind our products and process in addition to our own business story. For us being authentic in who we are as a business and how we support our community is the best way we can share our story on social media.
