We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Paula Be K a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Paula, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I have become connected and emotionally attached to happened on a trip to Tanzania and learning and getting to know the local tribe. I connected with them and we co-designed jewelry.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As a fashion lover from the time I was a child I found great joy in creating beaded purses and weekly craft projects with my Mom. That led me to my passion of creating unique statement jewelry pieces that create joy in ladies lives. As part of my business goals I promote fellow artists as that helps sustain small business and supports growth in the artist community. One of the favorite groups I support is Minundo Mizouri “delightful designs” in swahili. The Datoga Trive with are silversmith craftsman in Tanzania stole my heart on a visit to Africa. This visit ignited vision for their jewelry in the US to support the community and Tanzanian school. When you purchase this recycled primitive yet beautiful jewelry half of the proceeds contribute to the betterment of their lives and education.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission in this 25 year journey of creating jewelry and supporting fellow artisans is to elevate people’s lives and promote other artists to sustain the identity for all of us. This supports many charities through donations and substantiating their cause through design.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
It is always a struggle to sustain your small artisan business as we all purchase things that are not unique and hand crafted due to costs. Recipients of hand created art pieces feel that much thought has been put into the gift by the individual creating it as well as the gift giver. We should all strive to support small business and artisans.
