We were lucky to catch up with Paul Rossi recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Paul thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Before we talk about all of your success, let’s start with a story of failure. Can you open up about a time when you’ve failed?

I’m almost 20 years sober, and at one point in my life I lost everything I had. I was arrested in a bar fight and sent to a level 3 prison for putting 3 men in the hospital. I lost my job as Managing Investigator of a private investigations company. I lost my luxury townhouse, and had to start over from scratch. It took me years of scraping and changing my entire life to get back in the game.

Paul, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I’m an actor who had a very different experience to the normal route of acting training. I was an undercover investigator who had to learn quickly how to be someone else, in order to simply survive.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

After losing everything in a drunken moment of stupidity, I was able to rebound and make changes to my lifestyle. I became a Military Security Contractor and lived and worked for a year in Southern Afghanistan fighting the Taliban. I also worked as a Diplomatic Security Contractor for the Department of State and worked for the U.S. Consulate in Erbil, Kurdistan. I’m now almost 20 years sober and my Acting Career is getting better and better.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

As an Ambassador for Mission 22, a non-profit organization that fights against Veteran Suicide, I’ve had to realize that talking about PTSD and anxiety are not a form of weakness, but a great deal of strength is involved in reaching out for help. Importing our Veterans to reach out for help before falling victim to being a statistic is one of the most rewarding things I’ve experienced in my life.
