We recently connected with Paul R. Williams III and have shared our conversation below.
Paul R., looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
A defining moment happened for me many years ago when I was working at a tech start-up in Queens, NY. My job like most, was filled with tons characters off all different backgrounds and personality types. I remember that there was this one gentleman that most of my coworkers could never seem to get along with. After spending some time with him myself, I quickly understood why and that it was that he often talked to people with a lot of resentment and cynicism. Most people abandoned this guy, and stopped talking to him to protect their own energies, and that was completely understandable. I grew up very much feeling like an outcast amongst my family and other social circles as I got older, so there was always something in me that resonated with people that were cast aside in certain ways. As I took the time to get to know him, he started to open up to me about his past and some of his traumas and it quickly became clear all of the many shadows that consistently plagued him, and how that was a big obstacle when it came to connecting with others in ways that they might deem socially acceptable. I started talking to him about spirituality and different styles of meditation, and how that could help him not just quiet his mind, but also observe his thoughts, especially the ones that looped time and time again that he really struggled with. I also set up realistic expectations for him so that he would know his mind would be very busy in the beginning. I remember him thanking me for the way I described how he should personally meditate because he said no one had ever taken the time to break it down for him. That every time he tried it, he could never get his mind to be quiet and so he felt like he was failing and always quit. As he got started on the journey, he would come and talk to me every day about his progress, and it quickly became clear how it was improving his mental health, and the coworkers could see a significant difference as well. My ability to hold space for him without judgement, design a plan that made sense for him personally, and continue to work on it with him over time was an experience that proved to me that I could really have a positive impact with the healing of others with all that I had learned. It’s something I’ve been extremely passionate about ever since.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Becoming a Spirituality Coach was something that I fell in love with, but it certainly wasn’t a part of my original life-plan. I was putting myself through school in an acting program, and during my studies about the imagination I stumbled across a book by Neville Goddard called Awakened Imagination. This particular book caused my spiritual awakening in which I felt an explosion of electrical energy within every cell in my body, and then it extended out into my environment as well. For the first time in my life, I had felt one with everything around me. It was a truly profound experience that altered my consciousness in unbelievable ways. My meditations got deeper as I was suddenly able to download information that I had never known before, my mind started healing, my nervous system started healing, and I also started to be able to regulate my emotions in healthier ways as well. I took hundreds of pages of notes, and I cross referenced that with other gurus and guides who had had similar spiritual experiences. I became a student of this knowledge along with philosophy, quantum physics, history and how it could all improve the health of our minds and bodies, and I’m still a student to this day. Everything I’ve learned I pour back into helping others heal themselves as well, and it has been the most fulfilling and impactful position I’ve ever had. I’ve seen so many lives changed, and I’ve began sharing some of my tools on social media this past year also. The response back has be overwhelming in the most beautiful of ways, and I look forward to helping more people heal, and feel empowered to change their lives and the lives of those around them for the foreseeable future.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
If I could go back, I can safely say that I would absolutely choose the same profession. Only because it was something that came naturally to me, and I think that that is an important marker when it comes to choosing a long-term career path. I’ve always had a passion for learning, and sharing what I’ve learned with the people around me, so that fits right in with teaching and coaching others. Learning about spirituality was something I naturally did strictly for myself in the beginning because I could see the impact it was having on healing my high-anxiety and depression. The more I learned and the more I practiced was the more I healed parts of myself that I had struggled with my whole life. The traumas, abuses, and negative self-talk now all had a medicine through spirituality that completely changed my life. So to share something so impactful to me with others was an easy choice, and the more I saw people’s lives changed was the more inspired I got to continue to educate myself and get better and better. Making the transition to social media, and sharing my knowledge has built an entire audience of supporters that I would have never had access to had I kept my work local. It’s important that we not only pursue the things that we innately love, but also to know and believe that those pursuits can actually sustain us in a variety of long-lasting ways as well.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe my reputation in the market was built on my authenticity and a genuine love and desire to help other people win in their own lives without my own personal agenda involved. As I extended myself to social media, I was very aware that I could use my tools and techniques to sell a course or other products very easily, but I instead chose to give away a lot of information for free for a while. Leaving out the monetary pursuit, allowed me to focus on my messaging and helping others without coming across like an emotionless salesman. Now that’s not to say that money is inherently bad, or that my time and energy wasn’t valuable in that way, but in getting started in a new medium, I had no desire to make it a part of my “Why?” The audience actually responded extremely well, and they were able to see the love, passion and energy that I had in helping them and changing their lives in any way I could. I have supporters of every race, and every gender ranging from early 20’s to late 70’s, and I attribute that completely to sharing what I love with authenticity. To me, that is a successful strategy in itself and when you trust it, the audience and the market show you just how much they appreciate you, and what you have to offer as well. That is something that I will always be eternally grateful for.
