We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Paul Napier . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Paul below.
Alright, Paul thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
I am very happy being a business owner my previous job was a truck driver. after 13 years of driving/working 70 to 80 a week I began to get very frustrated and tired of not enjoying life, my family, or just plain resting. I forgot what it was like to have holidays off but if I did have that day off such as Christmas I’m getting off Christmas day which means I’m to tired to enjoy the day or I can’t stay up past 8.p.m Christmas night because I have to get up between the hours of 12 a.m. and 3 a.m. I was mentally and physically tired. i sometimes wonder what it would be like to have a regular job. to be honest at this current time i prefer having my own business.

Paul , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Paul Napier and I own a BBQ catering and food truck Business we have been in business since 2016 we do corporate lunches/ dinners and event. we also specialize in caterings for weddings, private party’s etc. we make all of our items from scratch. and all of our meat is smoked from a wood smoker only. we feel very proud and happy and appreciative that we have costumers that keeps us going.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
this is a good question this is also my number one question that I am most frequently ask from others who are trying to start their business. The first thing I always tell people is credit… you must have your personal credit profile together. and learn how to build business credit. I personally believe in using the bank’s money to help me make money. good credit gives you good borrowing power. or you may also be able to find an investor. you also have to have a good plan talk to people who’s already in the industry get ideas learn from them mistakes first

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
I remember when I first started doing my food truck I was still working full time as a truck driver. and on the weekends I would do events or caterings. our customers in clients begin to build and get busier as time went by. I can remember the day when The company that I was working for called me in the office and told me my food truck and catering business became a conflict of interest for them. at this time I will still trying to figure things out with my business barely understood how to run it lol but I stood from the on my business and politely told them if I have to choose it would not be this job. I had a strong poker face lol. sometimes when you doing something that you don’t like but it’s working just enough we get comfortable in doing the same thing over and over. I told myself one plus one will always equals two if I want different results I must do different things. as scary as it can be sometimes. you just have to jump. also understood that the dog you feed the most will be the dog that’s in the better shape so I began to spend more time with my business and God blessed it to grow
