Paul, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry.
Regardless if we are working with a large corporation or a small business…strategies for attracting & retaining Key/Top talent is THE trend for us right now. When increased compensation is not going to move the needle, what ways can a business show their commitment to a select individual or individuals which will provide an additional deferred retirement income above & beyond their 401ks. These strategies should be simple and they do protect the business if something should happen before the employee retires.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was blessed to live out my childhood dream as a Professional Basketball player for 10 years after spending 4 years playing at Michigan State University from 02′-06′. Through my pro career, I added 6 more surgeries to make 7 total and had to walk away, but I got everything I could out of my body.
I am currently a Partner with The Podium Group and oversee our Risk Management, Private Client and Executive Benefit teams. In 2014 I had my 4th right knee surgery where 3-teeth size pieces of debris were removed…the best surgeon in the world, Dr. James Andrews wasn’t sure if I’d be able to play again. That next season, my Moscow team won the 2015 European championship and I lead every major statical category in the championship series.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
They say your brand is what people say about you when you’re not in the room… The community saw how i carried myself in the media and as an 18 year old kid in the media spotlight. They saw me never turn down a picture, a fan or an autograph.
Simplest way to explain it…It may be the 100th person that comes up to you, asks a question or ask for a pic, but its the 1st time that person has come up to you. Treat everyone as if they’re the first person you saw that day, they deserve your attention and respect…if we carry that through life, we’ll be who we deserve to be to the world
