Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Paul Capel. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Paul thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Ever since my teenage years, I knew I wanted to be an artist full time. If I had to date an exact moment, it would be the time I was gifted some canvas and acrylic paints for Christmas back in 2015. After I managed to sell my first canvas early 2016, I knew I had a shot at being full time with it.
Paul, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Paul Capel IV, but I mostly go by “Kaz”. I am a digital artist that focuses on cartoon and anime characters with the boldness and vivid colors that you would find on a wall covered in grafitti. I get my inspiration from video games, and different cartoons and anime that I grew up watching as a kid. I also like to take my art, and press it onto the clothing and skate decks too.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Its seeing other people wear my merch, and the personal progression as an artist. Just watching from where I started, to where I at, and where I will continue to grow as an artist means more to me than any sale. Seeing people in public wearing my merch, and supporting me as an artist is priceless.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I can understand the appeal behind it. Its new, and adds a certain level of exclusivity to certain pieces. I’m personally not a big fan. I don’t like the idea of a platform that lacks usability, liquity, and governance.
