We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Paul Cantu. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Paul below.
Alright, Paul thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
I am hoping that I can leave behind a very large, vibrant and diverse company full of people of all backgrounds that I can train, coach and mentor to become the best possible real estate professionals in the industry. Whether they are new to the real estate industry or coming from another real estate brokerage before joining mine, I want them to know that I am 100% invested in their future success. I want to help them build successful life-long businesses that can serve themselves, their families and their communities. As a person of color and a Minority business owner, I especially want to reach those persons who might be underrepresented in real estate. I will have been in real estate for 24 years this summer. I still love to help my clients sell and buy real estate, but my true passion has become training, coaching and mentoring.

Paul, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello, my name is Paul Cantu. I am the founder of Cantu Group Real Estate and I am currently the Designated Broker and Owner of the Seattle office of The Griffin Realty Group. I first got into real estate back in the summer of 2000, and I opened my independent, family and minority owned real estate office in 2003. In the summer of 2021 I decided to form a partnership with my longtime friend Danny Griffin of The Griffin Realty Group in Cape Cod, MA.
Our office’s philosophy is built around a culture of ongoing training, coaching and mentoring. This is so that we can ensure that our agents are always able to service our clients to the absolute highest level. In the last 2 decades plus we have helped countless hundreds of homeowners to achieve their real estate goals.
I am incredibly proud of the level of one on one individualized planning we are able to provide to each of our clients. Whether it be a home owner’s need for us to determine what home projects might need to be done before listing their home to our finding and coordinating those contractors and managing those projects on their behalf, we really make the entire process easy and hassle free for our clients.
I feel that having been born and raised here in Seattle, and having lived here the last 50+ years, coupled with having been in real estate the last 24 years gives us a very distinct advantage over the many corporate real estate offices that are in the our city. We are truly a part of the Seattle community. I know this city and region like the back of my hand. I have seen Seattle change, grow, and I know how to navigate and explain all of these things to my agents so they may clearly articulate them to their clients.
The last 2+ decades selling real estate throughout the greater Seattle area has been such and amazing and wonderful experience. I have worked with so many wonderful clients, many of whom I keep in touch with and remain friends with to this day. I am beyond humbled and I am so incredibly grateful for these opportunities. I have also enjoyed so much training, coaching and mentoring real estate agents in my office to build their own successful businesses that can serve themselves, their families and their communities.
I am excited to see what the next 10 years brings!

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I keep in touch my clients in a variety of ways, I try to mix it up with a variety of both personal messages, including handwritten annual Home Anniversary cards with a small gift card, hand signed letters accompanying a quarterly real estate market report I send out, a very nice quarterly magazine, “Home By Design” that gives design, travel, gardening and recipe ideas, handwritten Christmas (holiday) cards, (some years I’ll include gifts, like handprinted bookmarks or coffee cards), monthly emailed real estate market reports, emailed cards for all holidays, both federal as well as fun ones, like Halloween and Valentines Day, and usually once a year I will pick up the phone and try and call them say hello, check in and remind them I’m still in real estate and would love to help them or anyone they know that has any real estate needs.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
The dual blow of the Covid pandemic occurring right about the same time as a very serious personal medical situation hit me caused my very busy real estate business to begin to grind to a halt. By the fall of 2022, just 2 1/2 years into the Covid pandemic, and into my still sorting out my medical situation, my business was down 80% in revenue.
I made the decision to partner with my long time friend and coach, Danny Griffin of The Griffin Realty Group in Cape Cod, MA, and I began rebuilding my office, now know as, The Cantu Group Team I The Griffin, and I have been hard at work rebuilding my office, and we look to be coming out of those trying times stronger than ever before.
