We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Paty Soltero a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Paty, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My parents coming from Mexico with 3 young children in their 20’s made sure to remind us that we were no different than anyone else, that anything we wanted in life with hard work and dedication was attainable, and they were taught to us by them leading and showing us by example. In how they lived their lives and what all they were able to accomplish. They opened a Mexican Restaurant and the first Mexican store in the town we were raised in. They always made sure we knew our roots and where we came from and to always be thankful for them. Watching them struggle to make sure they taught us that the American dream was attainable and that we could accomplish anything we set out to accomplish regardless of the obstacles if we wanted it bad enough.
Paty, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was born in Mexico and came to the United States at the age of four. I was always very involved in leadership and extra curricular activities in school. Instead of going to college after high school I married at the age of 19 a year later I had my son and a lot of what I had imagined for my life was no where in sight. My marriage at such a young age with someone who didn’t value me and was mentally and physically abusive took a toll on my self esteem and what I had imagined for myself. I left after 3 years and attended a community college for nursing school to become a nursing assistant. A career that ran in my family. I soon realized that was not the career that I was passionate about. I later married my current husband and my path led me to working for a furniture store in sales, that is where I knew that was my passion to assist others and bring the best customer service to my clients possible. I became the top sales person in the entire company, with over 2000 sales people and in over 5 states. The store sold 2 million dollars that year and I sold 1 million of it myself, I won every contest that year that was offered.
That experience in sales opened many doors for me and I went on to become a mortgage loan officer. Being able to assist my clients with the biggest purchase of their lives and being a part of the process was very fulfilling.
While at the peek of my career, my mother became diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and was losing her vision completely. My dad had been battling prostate cancer two years prior to my mother being diagnosed with diabetes. I then decided I would take a break from my career and move back to my small town and be their caregiver and provider. After 8 years of eye surgeries and treatments. the doctors were able to save one of her eyes and stop the other eye from bleeding and she was able to obtain her drivers license once again. My dad always mentally strong was doing great with maintaining his cancer count down. All of these while welcoming my 3rd child in my late 30’s kept me very busy and grounded.
I felt a little overwhelmed and in a sense that I was losing myself and my goals. and decided that while my daughter being a baby that I would study online for my real estate license. In 5 very trying and very dedicated weeks I was able to obtain my Associate Broker license in the state of Colorado at the age of 37. A year to the date of obtaining my license I opened my real estate office in the hometown I grew up in and where my parents still resided.
After three years I decided Id return to Georgia the state that had been so good to me in my early 20’s. where I had accomplished so much, and where I was able to find my passion of sales and Real Estate. I returned to the state of Georgia in 2016 and was named the Realtor of the Year in 2017. Most of my clients were millennial, which was very rewarding to me. That encouraged me to obtain my millennial expert certification to assure that I gave them the best service I could offer. I got involved with the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professional (NAHREP) where I have served as secretary for two years, Government Affairs, Vice President, and current President 2023. The mission for NAHREP is educating and empowering Real Estate Professionals who provide service for Hispanic buyers and sellers. I am also a big advocate for Hispanic clients who are looking to accomplish the American dream of homeownership.
I am most proud about being able to assist my clients with the best service from beginning to end, being I have a mortgage lending background I am able to give them the best service available because I understand their process and hold their hands until they receive the keys to their dream home.
My clients aren’t just my clients they become forever friends who trusted in me through their homebuying process and keep in touch with me throughout their lives journeys. It is so rewarding and the reason I do what I do and why I love what I do so much!

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe that giving back, staying connected, and giving the best of you to not only your clients, community and others in the industry. Being ethical and genuine and always supporting and encouraging others

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Best source of new clients for me has always been referrals, word of mouth it speaks volumes of the job you provided for your clients that they are sure others would benefit from by using you. Many of my clients have had awful experiences where they felt taken advantage of or not heard or that their pre-qualified amount isn’t worth all the work that will be involved, Those are the clients that sometimes need the most help and those often become the most rewarding at the end because of how challenging their process was, but they are also the clients that will let everyone they know how thankful they are because of how hard you worked to help get them in their house.
