We were lucky to catch up with Patty Zamora recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Patty thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
My boyfriend, Joel and I decided to go into business together when we realized we loved spending time together thrifting and collecting unique pieces from times mostly forgotten about now. It made us reminisce about our childhood, especially when we found something like a G.I. Joe doll, Bert and Ernie figurines or cocktail glasses our parents had back in the 60s and 70s. We started collecting all of this stuff and for what? So, one day we decided let’s open an Etsy store. Let’s see if there are folks out there like us who love this stuff as much as we do. So that’s what we did. We came up with the name ROZA Vintage from our last names. We took the first two letters of each other’s name and what we came up with is ROZA. The store just celebrated its one year anniversary. These days the business has been primarily my focus. I love when I hear the money chime go off on my phone. That alerts me to another sale! Cha Ching!!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hello, my name is Patty Zamora and I am co-owner of ROZA Vintage, an online resale shop focused on items from years past but not forgotten. I think the reason why we’re doing so well is because we both have an eye for picking out unique, fun and often times, pretty things. It just so happens that people like what we pick out. I also watch what sells and will focus on finding those items too. What I really like is the recycling aspect of it. I really feel good about recycling and giving new life to something someone discarded. Just imagine if more people bought second hand? Whether it’s clothing, home goods or furniture, we’d be helping our planet by keeping things out of landfills and reducing our carbon footprint. Not only that, but shopping second hand saves you money!! It seems like a no brainer to me.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I think what’s helped us gain new clients are the positive views we are receiving from our buyers. We are in the customer service business. And as a consumer myself, this is very important to me. I believe in being responsive and honest about what you’re selling. I also believe the types of vintage items we’re selling are attractive to people wanting to find something unique.
Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
Just as I was getting into this business I came across a live on Instagram one night. I was drinking some wine so maybe that’s what gave me the courage to join the live. These ladies were going around in a circle selling some of their own items. Well, they let me join in even though I wasn’t selling anything. I ended up providing commentary on the items and sharing my ideas on what other ways they could use the items. I must have been on there for an hour when I decided to jump off and once I did I noticed that I had gained a bunch of new followers. It was a great way to get my store noticed while having fun too.
