We were lucky to catch up with Patty Myasia recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Patty, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I recently launched a shorts-set collection, the “Expression Set” centered around black boys/men mental health. It reads “Dear Black Boy, It’s Okay To Weep”—in creative effort to dismantle the stigma surrounding what boys/men should “not” do. I created this same creative thought back in 2020, it was hand-painted on men’s dickie sets.
I lost a close guy friend to suicide, and it impacted me heavily. Anytime I release this project, it’s my way of shedding light. It will forever be meaningful to me. I know creating artisric messages can NOT undo years of emotional repression placed onto black boys/men, but if it impacts one and get them to acknowledge releasing emotions differently—then job well done. I try my best to create with intention. I could make pointless trendy pieces and make millions all day if I desired, but I want to use my talent to highlight important things within black culture.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Piece by PMR is where faith, culture + fashion, become one world. Each piece is curated by hand, through the method of painting and crafting. Bringing forth, wearable art. It’s black luxury. The goal has and always will be, to create with purpose. For black culture as a whole, but for Black Women, first. Piece by PMR is very much a “for us, by us”—unapologetically. My brand is an artistic ode to black culture.
I recently expanded to Haus of PMR, my home decor + accessories collection. When I started my brand, I was solely hand-painting handbags. My home decor collection pays homage to the beginning of the brand, whilst still celebrating the culture. You’ll see the handbag everywhere lol. Offering tumblers, mugs, buttons, poster-prints, area rugs, wall clocks, pillows, bracelets, necklaces, puzzles. I want my art and messages to reign forever, it’s deeper than fashion.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect is seeing the amount of people that you can inspire and empower, through art. Nothing really tops impacting hearts. I don’t do it for the praise, I just want to give the world meaningful art. So whenever the messages come, I’m always in awe. Sometimes I don’t even feel like I’m worthy of the type of messages I receive, I usually always tell people—give the applause to God, I’m solely just a vessel.
Aside from that, being a black woman in Amerikkka is quite the task, but to be a darkskin black woman—it feels twice as heavy. Another rewarding part of being a creative, is the way I get to highlight us, show up for us and put on for us—in the biggest ways. Humbly but truthfully, none of my wins during this creative journey has been small, alot of my wins/accomplishments have shocked me and I did it all as a DARKSKIN BLACK WOMAN. Everything I do is for black women, but darkskin black women, especially. We belong in every room, colorism will never be powerful enough to stop me. I’m far too favored by God.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
“Empower, Inspire and Disrupt” is my mission statement. Empower/Inspire black and brown people, Disrupt Amerikkka.
In a world where it constantly feels like there’s mass genocide on black lives, I choose to celebrate us. Black joy is revolutionary. Within my brand, the goal is to always help us remember we are important, valued, powerful and most importantly—we deserve all the flowers. In a world that constantly tries to place us last, my goal is to always artistically remind us, we are FIRST. We are the blueprint to most things, if not all things. Where would Amerikkka be without black people? What would fashion be without black culture? Everything is “ghetto” until gentrified….
