We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Patty Lennon a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Patty thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Crazy stuff happening is almost as certain as death and taxes – it’s technically “unexpected” but something unexpected happening is to be expected and so can you share a crazy story with our readers
In 2019 I hit a new (better) stride in my business. The core messaging was connecting with audiences in a way it never had before. In March we were launching and all metrics were showing that this launch would be our best yet. We had 400-500 people on every Facebook live we did and 1000+ watching the replays. There was a 2-day break between the final Facebook live and a webinar I would host to open the doors to our new mastermind.
The day before I ran the webinar two police officers showed up at my door to tell me my father had passed away suddenly. I was very close to my father. He was almost 90 but he was a vibrant, independent person. I was heartbroken and easily made the decision not to host the webinar or start the mastermind.
I know a lot of people in my industry would have pushed through and completed the launch but I didn’t have it in me. What happened over the next 6 months was nothing short of a miracle. I went on a hiatus for 2 months to process and grieve. When I came back I quietly opened the mastermind I had been launching in March. It did even better than I expected.
Then as the months went on everything in my work life improved – sales, support, reach. I learned so many valuable lessons of what it looks like to share vulnerably and be open to receiving. I also learned how to trust the intuitive messages I was getting and follow them without question.
Within 6 months I was ready to launch again. I kept this launch simple. Planning to only do a single webinar.
Three days before I offered that webinar my Spirit Guides gave me a very insistent message … “You will not open your existing mastermind. Your business is about to change. You are going to open The Receiving School.” At the time I had no idea what The Receiving School even was.
At the end of the webinar, I shared the following with my audience: “This is the time when I’d normally open the doors to my mastermind and I know you are expecting it but I’m not going to do that. My Spirit Guides have told me I’ll be running The Receiving School from this point forward. If you’d like to join you can do so at a deep discount because I have no idea what this will really be like.”
I had told my Spirit Guides if at least 10 people signed up I’d run it (even though it was only a $1000 program at the time and the mastermind i was supposed to be launching was a $10,000 program.). Within 3 weeks I had 60 people signed up. All I had done to fill those 60 spots was host that webinar and send 3 emails.
As of today we have had 300 people join The Receiving School and 60% of our alum attend every round. The Receiving School – and its message – is my entire focus and I never would have had the courage to follow that Divine inspiration had life not worked out exactly the way it did in 2019.
Even though I talk to my father weekly (from the other side of the veil), I still miss him being here on planet earth. When you lose someone you love deeply it isn’t easy. But I want anyone reading that is dealing with their own grief to know that if you can give yourself the time and space to care for yourself, you may find an unexpected gift amidst your pain.
Patty, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a best-selling author, keynote speaker, certified coach, and founder of The Receiving School®. I’m also a former type-A corporate banker who discovered there was more to life than making money. I hold a masters in psychology and developed a technique that blends brain science and metaphysics to help my clients manifest their dreams into reality and connect to the Spirit World.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Hands down speaking has been the most effective strategy to growing loyal long term clientele. During the pandemic, in person speaking opportunities disappeared. During that time we refocused on podcasts. This is a wonderful way to connect as well. I am excited to be back out on the road speaking though!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
The same week I started my business (after leaving corporate banking), my husband was let go. He was out of work for two years. During that time we built up a huge amount of debt (spoiler: launching a business did not replace my corporate banking income right away.).
There were so many times when I wanted to give up but each time I considered it, this work called me forward. It is now many years later. The debt is paid off and my husband is happy in his career. I love this business and feel privileged to do the work I do.
Low points will happen. The advice I have for anyone who feels ready to give up is this:
1. It is normal
2. Let your connection to your work be your north star
3. Ask the Universe for help.
