We recently connected with Patti Ashton and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Patti thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How’s you first get into your field – what was your first job in this field?
I was working two jobs, going to school, raising three children and taking care of my entire household. While I was working, I found an opportunity to become an overnight Infant Care Specialist. After working as an Infant Care Specialist for over 8 years, I was blessed with the opportunity to buy the business. And I bought it! I’ve never looked back since.
Patti , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As a mother to three amazing kids, I experienced the joys and challenges of pregnancy. As well as labor, delivery, breastfeeding, and navigating the period of postpartum. During this phase of life, I realized was my calling is helping new mom’s and babies. Soon after, I began working as an Infant Care Specialist. Only then I found in this opportunity my ability to educate, support, and overall help families. This was incredibly fulfilling to me and still is to this day.
Sweet Dreams Infant Care rescues sleep deprived families throughout the US and internationally. Our team of Infant Care Specialists and Registered Nurses provide postpartum education and support to our families with their newborns. Providing such impactful support helps them get the sleep they so desperately need. We also provide sleep training, certified lactation consultants, postpartum doulas and new parent classes. Our clients receive 24-hour care with licensed, certified and vastly experienced healthcare professionals. This year we have expanded our services internationally (Canda and the UK) and created another company called CHARM Personal Services LLC which provides nanny services, house managers and more. This allows us to provide care to families beyond the infant and youthful stages of their children’s lives.
Any advice for managing a team?
One big piece of advice I’d give to a business owner is stay as organized as possible. Communication, business structure and your process of doing business must be solid. The process of delivering your product/service from your business to the client must be streamlined to perfection. The ability to provide your service/product, provide in timely fashion and with the upmost integrity leaves the client more than satisfied. In some cases, this can be your best marketing tool.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
If I could go back, I would definitely choose the same profession and specializing in overnight infant care. I enjoy everything about the business and how I’ve been able to grow personally with the business. I love working with children, their families and helping new/existing families. The ability to turn a desperate sleep deprived frustrated family into a well-rested functional family so they can wholeheartedly enjoy being a family is a true blessing.
