We were lucky to catch up with Patrick Thomas recently and have shared our conversation below.
Patrick, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
In starting Impact Counseling Services where we see induvial, couples, and people dealing with the many challenges we as people face in ones day to day life, I knew starting a practice was a necessary thing that I needed to do when I saw the service delivery being administered regularly, I saw too many examples of people going to therapy and not learning, growing, or moving forward in their therapy experience, I felt the frustration of the clients and sought to give people another option, a place where clients could not only receive (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) CBT and process their emotions but also a place where they could leave their sessions feelings like the time they invested was worth it, like they learned something that they could use today and into the future, whether it is a perspective adjustment, a personal insight discovered in session or a coping skill that they could add to their personal tool box to use as needed, I knew therapy had to be more than just sitting there and talking, I knew there needed to be more of an impact with people in sessions and so I started my practice and starting serving the community with Impact Counseling Services.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have worked in the field of providing social services at all levels since starting my educational journey in 2009 and I have been providing direct therapy since graduating with a master’s degree from Arizona State in 2016. Since being in practice, I have worked with people from all walks of life. I have a background of experience in working with all populations, including working with individuals, doing couples sessions, working with members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and people from ages 18-80 who are struggling with anxiety, depression, and PTSD, also I have worked with the military community and first responders, people that have experienced PTSD, and survivors of domestic violence.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Consistency, simple and plan. I have worked in this field for a very long time and clients and other stakeholders are always either satisfied or have grievances about consistency or a lack of consistency. No matter if it’s raining or sunshine, we at Impact Counseling Services are consistent with our clients, we show up for them professionally and connect then with therapeutic services that meet their needs or resource build with the clients to refer out to other service providers that can also help with the needs of the client if their needs are outside of our therapeutic scope.
