We were lucky to catch up with Patrick Tarnowski recently and have shared our conversation below.
Patrick, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Unsigned Pop Punk started after over 20 years of being in bands and working in the music industry and knowing how hard it is for up and coming musicians to be heard and be seen. It can be very difficult to get people to give you an opportunity, listen to your music, come out to a show, this includes friends and family. Getting anyone to care about your art that you care so much about can feel disheartening. I started Unsigned Pop Punk because I care and I know there are so many other people out there that do too. Unsigned Pop Punk is a community dedicated to building up the music scene.
I started simply with a playlist and then we started branching out to other forms of entertainment to help shine a spotlight on up and coming artists.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I spent most of my musical career in the bands Jamestown Story and Cities Never Sleep. I have spent the last 20 some years of my life in the the music industry and I wanted to help give bands the opportunities that I was never given. Unsigned Pop Punk helps shine a spotlight on up and coming bands through our playlists on Spotify, our Podcast “Where Did All My Friends Go?” Our shows on Twitch, our live events such as our “Punk Rock Flea Market” and other content that we create.
We work closely with not only up and coming artists but with established artists, legends in the scene, and record labels.
I am very proud of how far we have come in only a couple years but we still have much more we want to do!
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
We are very active on our social medias and comment and respond to everyone who takes the time to talk to us. Our brand loyalty comes from, at least I think, our dedication to the music scene and our sincerity. There are so many organizations out there that take advantage of artists and we refuse to do that. All of the services that we provide to artists are all free. Everything we say we are going to do, we do.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I had been working for a job that I hated and was miserable at. It affected my home life and if it wasn’t for my wife believing in me there would be no Unsigned Pop Punk. My wife pushed me to leave my dead end job so that I can try and help people just like me. As I stated earlier, everything Unsigned Pop Punk does for artists is free so obviously funding gets a little tricky. We have rely on sponsors for our podcast and other shows as well as our events and Merchandise.
