We recently connected with Patrick Smith and have shared our conversation below.
Patrick , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I knew from a very young age I wanted to pursue music. Trapping myself in the basement for hours everyday learning songs and then writing my own material. I would picture myself on stage performing and just imagining what it would be like traveling the world sharing what I’ve created.
Patrick , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started writing music when I was 12 after picking up the guitar. I loved the way it made me feel and I’m not the best with words, so it gave me an outlet to express myself. I was mainly drawn to alternative music as I was an angsty teen because of the aggression it helped release. I played in and created many bands and projects throughout the years and incredibly proud of the music and memories I’ve made with some great friends. I continue to create for myself and in hopes that I can inspire people to let go of negativity and follow their dreams as well.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
The internet can be your best friend through your journey. There are tons of resources out there to help you learn, steps to get to the next stage, and stories of people who are doing the same exact thing. When I was younger the internet wasn’t like it is today and I wish I would have had some of that moving along but, I’m able to utilize it now and it’s a big part of why I’m still progressing today.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My main goal with all of this is to help get the thoughts I can’t express otherwise out of my head and in hopes to relate to others out there dealing with the same issues. Also, inspire people who may not believe in themselves that they can accomplish their goals no matter how small you feel in the world.
