We were lucky to catch up with Patrick Portilla recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Patrick thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
My first transaction was actually at the start of 2022. In 2021, I knew I wanted to get into sneaker reselling and I decided to take the time to actually learn how to do so. Sneakers are my passion so at the same time, I was creating content based on that passion. Through my YouTube channel I was able to create a community. That community that was built, is now the people who are buying from me directly. My first sale earlier this year was a pair of Nike Dunk Low “Panda”. I sold that pair in person to one of the users in my community. We met up in person. He verified everything was authentic and we just had a conversation about what’s next for me. It has been such a great journey and ever since them we have just been moving forward.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Whats yall! My name is Patrick Portilla, also known as PATS KICKZ. I am a sneaker youtuber and reseller. I am 24 years old and I am just getting started. My journey started earlier this year and I am proud of what I have been able to accomplish thus far. On my YouTube channel, you will see anything from sneaker news, sneaker unboxings, and product reviews. I utilize my social media presence in order to promote my reselling business. As we all know, buying sneakers as of recently has been so hard to get into. My goal for my business is to be able to help those who have the same passions as me to cop the sneakers they want. Sneaker reselling has gotten so expensive due to sneaker botters. I want to be able to be the middle man in everything, helping people purchase sneakers at a more reasonable price. I want to help people save money on their sneaker collections.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
One thing that I noticed in the creative ecosystem is that a lot of people treat the community like competition. The community should be uplifting and encouraging to our fellow creatives. There are many times when you would try to reach out to others for advice or collaborations and they would feel pressure because of that. Some of us need help when we are just getting started, so I hope we can get past only helping ourselves but instead have more of a positive impact.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to inspire and motivate others to change their dreams. I never though I would be someone who can make videos behind a camera. I never thought I could be someone that people would look forward to interacting with or even buying from. I want to use my platform to help others. Help them buy sneakers that they want, help them with where to buy them and giving them the best deals. I want to leave my mark in this community.
