Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Patrick Moss. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Patrick, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
The first time I knew I wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally as Black Santa was after I posted a pic of myself as Santa the first year I donned the classic red and white suit. A year prior I took a pic in a Santa hat and full beard. It was so well received by family and friends. I knew then I may have been on to something.
Patrick, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a native Houstonian with Trinidadian roots. My experience in singing and participating in opera indirectly prepared me for showmanship. My employment experience prepared me for the business aspect and discipline. The service I provide is an in-person appearance as a natural bearded Black Santa actor. I am available for professional photo shoots both print and videos. I can be booked for private home visits, corporate events, daycares, schools, group homes, hospitals, and assisted living facilities, etc. What I offer to the community is positive representation. It gives individuals both young and old a sense of belonging to see Santa Claus who resembles them in their likeness. What sets me aside from others is my authenticity and the confidence in knowing what I offer is genuine. I am most proud of my skill, talent, and the diversity in my wardrobe. The main things I want my potential clients and future followers to know about me is how dedicated and devoted I am to my craft. I also want them to know that the Black Santa EFX brand evolves to bring you the best the industry has to offer.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the response I receive upon my arrival and the lasting impression of memories created during my visit.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The one lesson I had to unlearn was that there is clearly a difference between those who believe in you and those who support you. In the beginning when the idea was conceived, I had an overwhelming response from those who offered conclusive moral reinforcement. They believed in me and what I had to offer. During the launch, the support was a success but less than expected. Hence, your support may come from a less likely source.
