We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Patrick Mcintyre a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Patrick thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about the early days of establishing your own firm. What can you share?
I remember being in Mexico City at the end of January this year. The Federal Reserve announced that they were not going to lower interest rates this year. I was with a lawyer to buy a permit to do business in Mexico and looking a buying some lots with a Ciudad Madera in a community development near Puerto Porgresso and Merida. I had a complete panic attack. The last year I spent learning how to sell commercial insurance, realizing it was going to take two more years to make a living selling insurance. So, I was committing to selling loans, as the commissions ramp up quite a bit quicker, however if the Fed keeps the rates up, the demand for loans will remain low. At that point, I think my subconscious knew I was in for a rough ride this year, and began having relentless paralyzing anxiety. A lot of motivational video and studying up stoicism were going to be required in addition to working seven days a week for the rest of the year.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Between 1998 and 2008, I was in the mortgage business working as a loan officer for a handful of different brokers over the years. Then in 2022 and friend talked me into getting back into the business. However the refinance business had dried up and the real estate purchase loans were on the down turn, so I tried my hand at commercial insurance, but that takes a few years to build up a client base. So, I started to brand my own business McIntyre Loans in January of this year, which is linked-up with a hand full of broker platforms, offering loan origination services in real estate, commercial loans and recreational loans for RVs and Yachts.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
It took a tremendous amount of courage to get this McIntyre Loans firm up and running. The whole process started with paralyzing chronic anxiety. So, I had to train myself to be comfortable with the discomfort with the fear and anxiety wrecking havoc on my mind and body. Forcing myself to get into action everyday even though I wanted to quit and hide under a rock. Now, I feel confident that the firm will succeed and am closing transactions every month, but it took all the way from January to closing the first commercial loan in July. It took a lot of persistence and perseverance to keep pushing on.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Marketing has been a real challenge. There are a whirl wind of methods in this new era of electronic media. Tons of marketers would come at me with ideas and methods for branding and marketing. Most of them don’t work or beyond the budget. It cost a lot of money finding the right team and effective methods for marketing and branding. It turned out that social media is the least expensive method for branding and marketing however, there is some much to learn and various methods of promotion and advertising on social media platforms. Plus, the platforms and their logarithms, reward different types of posting and so do the audiences depending on what type of followers we want to attract. I am nowhere near getting a handle on it, but what I have found is that my viewership gets a big boost when I do reels and videos of myself sharing my activities and helpful information. It can’t be all business, it has to be entertaining or viewers will lose interest and move on.
