We caught up with the brilliant and insightful PATRICK “JORDAN” FARRELL a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
PATRICK “JORDAN”, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear from you about what you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry and why it matters.
Larger corporate entities in the real estate market tend to take away from the personal experience that I believe should be part of every transaction. Real estate is a relationship experience. We need to understand our clients’ future goals as much as we are in the process of understanding their present goals. We need to understand and be empathetic to these things in order to serve them and protect them with what is one of the largest investments of their life.
If we are not empathetic and we do not form a relationship based risk assessment. They may have the potential for loss of money, loss of assets, bankruptcy, divorce, and more. Just a little extra effort and a little bit more of a personal experience, and a relationship can allow you to win at real estate. Without knowing these things and asking the right questions, we are limited to the research that we can do to better hold our clients’ hands through the process.
The larger corporate entities tend to make the transaction more and more disassociated every year that I’m in this business. They prioritize profits over the personal touch that is crucial for a successful real estate transaction. It is important for individuals in the real estate market to ensure that the personal experience does not get overshadowed by corporate entities in order to maintain the integrity of the profession.
PATRICK “JORDAN”, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As I reflect on my journey in the real estate industry, I can’t help but think back to the beginning. It all started when my father suffered a heart attack, and I made the decision to focus on a single career in order to support my family. I was young and naive then, not fully grasping the hard work and dedication it takes to be successful in this field.
Now, 20 years later, I understand the discipline and commitment required to thrive as a real estate agent. The industry has evolved, and I have adapted to the changes, understanding that being a successful realtor now means constant education, being a skilled in both marketing and media, as well has having personal life experience. I am thankful to The Perdue school of business at Salisbury University for my degree in marketing, I have been able to navigate these requirement with confidence.
One of my specialties lies in handling probate and divorce transactions, where it’s crucial to remain neutral and strive for the best outcome for all parties involved. My success in this industry is not solely my own; it’s also due to the incredible team of individuals who surround and support me, from title companies, accountants and financial planners to handymen.
I take great pride in the Florida Beaches Real Estate Co., focusing on client relationships and community service. Our rapid growth and success are a testament to our unwavering commitment to excellence. As I look towards the future, I am excited for what lies ahead and am determined to continue upholding our high standards of service.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I come from a line of very strong men and women. My grandfather, a marine, instilled in me the values of the Marine Corps. I believe that a man’s word is his bond, and if one says something, they better back it up. Additionally, I have a strong foundation of faith and believe in treating others with respect. My reputation has grown due to my service in the community and the ability to take responsibility for my actions and the actions of others. I am committed to consistent improvement and believe that we should always strive to reach our full potential.
Every day, I strive to live out these values and continue evolving into the best version of myself. I hold myself to a high standard, as I believe that is what my grandfather, and the strong men and women before me, would expect. While I know I have not reached my full potential, I am dedicated to the journey of self-improvement. I aim to emulate the traits of the strong men and women in my lineage and leave a positive impact on those around me. And be a great example for my two boys to follow.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
When I first stepped into the world of real estate, I was filled with uncertainty and shyness. In my attempt to hide my insecurities, I found myself speaking quickly, hoping to mask the uncertainty that lurked within me. It was a challenging time for me as I struggled to find my footing in this new and unfamiliar space.
However, one of the most impactful lessons I learned during those early years came from my first broker, Mark Fritschle. I can still vividly recall the moment when he imparted his wisdom upon me, telling me, “You have two ears and one mouth, so use them proportionately.” Those simple words resonated with me and have stayed with me throughout my career.
Mark’s advice was a stark reminder that as real estate professionals, our role is not just to speak, but to listen. It is through listening that we gain insight into our clients’ needs, aspirations, and concerns. By truly listening, we can better understand their unique circumstances and provide more empathetic and personalized support.
Today, as a seasoned real estate agent, I constantly remind my team of agents to heed Mark’s advice. I stress the importance of active listening, as it is through this practice that we can truly connect with our clients and serve them effectively. The lesson I learned from Mark has become an intrinsic part of my approach to real estate, and I am grateful for the invaluable wisdom he imparted on me.
