We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Patrick Gray a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Patrick, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Honestly, it’s hard to pick just one because for me, nearly every project I take on carries deep meaning. As a DJ, I’m not just showing up to play music, I’m stepping into some of the most important moments of people’s lives. Whether it’s a wedding, milestone birthday, or retirement celebration, these events mark chapters that people will remember forever. And I get to help shape the atmosphere and energy of that memory.
One example that stands out was a wedding where the couple surprised their guest by doing a choreographed dance. We worked together behind the scenes to blend their favorite songs so they could practice and put on a show. .When I played it during the first dance, the crowd could not help but show their excitement and that set the standard for the entire night. That moment reminded me why I do this: music creates emotional connections in ways words often can’t.
Each event reminds me that my work isn’t just about entertainment, it’s about creating joy, comfort, and celebration during life’s biggest moments. That’s why every project is meaningful.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is DJ Stash, and I’m an event DJ based in San Antonio, Texas. I specialize in creating unforgettable experiences for couples, families, and organizations celebrating life’s biggest moments. Whether it’s a wedding, birthday, corporate party, or private event, I bring professionalism, energy, and a personalized touch that turns celebrations into core memories.
Music has always been a central part of my life. Back in high school, I used to make custom mixtapes for friends and even teachers. I loved the process of blending songs to fit someone’s vibe or mood. It was never just about the music; it was about storytelling, connection, and giving people something that felt personal.
Years later, I was working at a local bank, and I’d still find ways to bring music into the everyday. I’d play music trivia with coworkers during downtime, and we’d constantly talk about new songs and old favorites. One of my coworkers was a DJ, and he invited me to come check out a gig. I surprised him by actually showing up and that night sparked something. A few months later, we started working together. I learned the business from the ground up how to read a crowd, build a set, manage the flow of an event before stepping out on my own to build my brand as DJ Stash.
Today, my business offers a full suite of entertainment services, including:
• DJ Services – From weddings and private parties to corporate events, I bring high-energy, customized mixes tailored to your vibe.
• MC Hosting – I guide the flow of your event with clarity and charisma, ensuring everything runs smoothly and on time.
• Lighting Design – Whether it’s uplighting, dance floor effects, or a spotlight for the grand entrance, I enhance the atmosphere visually as well as sonically.
• Photobooth Experiences – Guests love the interactive element of capturing memories on-site with customized backdrops, props, and instant digital sharing.
What I believe truly sets me apart is my commitment to going above and beyond. I’m not just there to play music, I’m there to serve. I create custom mixes tailored to each event, step in to support the couple or host when needed, and often act as a behind-the-scenes coordinator to help the day run smoothly. I collaborate closely with other vendors to keep everything in sync, reduce stress, and ensure that everyone, clients and vendors alike, has the best experience possible.
I’m most proud of the trust clients place in me to deliver on their vision and often go beyond it. My work has been described as “the best decision we made” and “the heartbeat of the night,” which tells me I’m doing more than DJing, I’m helping people create memories.
To anyone considering working with me: I care deeply about your day. I don’t take this role lightly. My job is to make sure the music feels like you, the energy stays high, and your guests leave saying, “That was one of the best nights ever.”

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I think one of the biggest ways society can support creatives is by genuinely respecting and uplifting small, local artists. Too often, creatives don’t receive the appreciation they deserve until they’ve “made it big,” but it’s the local DJs, painters, designers, musicians, and makers who shape the culture of our communities every day.
We also need to create space for artists to create freely without always expecting commercial perfection. Art is a reflection of the times we’re living in. It captures our joys, our struggles, our truths. When future generations look back, it’s the art that will give them insight into what life was like during our era. So, we have to protect that freedom of expression.
Whether it’s showing up to local shows, paying creatives fairly, or simply sharing their work with others small acts of support go a long way. Creativity thrives when it’s seen, respected, and valued.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding part is seeing the direct impact my work has on people. As a DJ, I’m not just playing music, I’m creating moments that people will remember for the rest of their lives. That moment when the dance floor erupts, or when a couple locks eyes during their first dance, sing to each other and everything feels perfect. That’s when I know I’m doing what I was meant to do.
There’s something incredibly powerful about using your creativity to bring joy, connection, and energy into a space. I love knowing that something I curated whether it’s a mix, a lighting setup, or a photobooth moment helped elevate someone’s milestone.
Another part that’s been unexpectedly rewarding is the way this journey has changed how I view art in general. I now understand the time, effort, and creativity that artists pour into their work and because of that, I’ve developed a whole new appreciation for some of my favorite works of art. Whether it’s a painting, a performance, or a perfectly mixed album, I see it through a different lens now as someone who knows what it takes to bring a vision to life.
Creativity is more than a job it’s a contribution to culture, memory, and meaning. That’s what makes it so fulfilling.
