Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Patrick Gloster. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Patrick thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Well basically I know that I wanted my name to be very catchy. I literally wrote down names on a sheet of paper, and one of the names just stuck with me. The R Report. I get asked a lot what the R stands for. and it actually stands for The Real Report. We give real exclusive interviews. The R is just more marketable. From jump I wanted to be a voice for the independent artists. Because the independent artists didn’t have many platforms locally at the time. The radio station had something for the independent artists, and it was maybe a few opportunities for the independent artists to open up for a mainstream artists here, and there. By it wasn’t many opportunities locally,

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Patrick Gloster, I’m the CEO/Founder of The R Report Magazine LLC, and the Owner/Operator of In Da Mix Radio LLC. I’m based in South Georgia, Lakeland, Georgia to be exact. I started The R Report in late 2009. I created a platform to interview the upcoming independent artists in South Georgia. Giving them another platform to get their music heard. As time passed we able to start interviewing artists from BET’s 106 & Park Freestyle Friday Champions such as Blind Fury, Yung Nutt, Poster Boi to name a few. Throughout the years The R Report Magazine continue to grow. We have interviewed artists such as Murphy Lee, DJ Kid Capri, Blood Raw, Bang’em Smurf, Hot Boy Turk, to name a few. We started printing locally in 2014 circulating about 500-1,000 magazines in the Southeastern region. Interviewing artists like Skooly, Cap 1, Drumma Boy Fresh, reality star Sina Bina, Dae Dae, Trouble, LA Da Booman, Scotty ATL, Just Brittany, Cormega, to name a few. In 2020 we got a distribution deal with Media Solution giving us nearly 100 Books A Million newsstand nationwide. But the pandemic hit, pushing us back to release nationwide in 2021. Our objective is still the same, providing a platform for the independent artists to get the exposure that they need in the growing entertainment industry.

What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
Yes it did. I started The R Report by blogging on one of my partner website. I interviewed artists, featured their music videos, or their new mixtapes. The blog grew so that I turned it into an online magazine. Got my online domain, and that was the real birth of The R Report Magazine. By doing some high profile interviews with some mainstream artists, and celebrities. It’s grew my social media presence, Especially on Twitter. All of my following is organic. Being successful online, actually got us into printing locally. We’re now printing nationally now. I have watched The R Report grow. From blogging on someone else’s website, to being on Books A Million newsstands nationwide.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
What helped me was giving the independent artists another platform for getting their music heard, or being notice. No one literally had a blog, or magazine in my market. I was able to capitalize on this situation that I created. Being another outlet that the independent artists can come to, to get the exposure that they need.
