We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Patrick, Douglas , Andrew Reeves. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Patrick, Douglas , Andrew below.
Patrick, Douglas , Andrew, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Our fan base has been so patient with us as we are going through Label/Agent shopping with our new EP. It’s been almost a year since we have released any new material, not for lack of new material mind you. To show all our fans(which we genuinely believe are friends/family) how much their support has meant to us we decided to go into the studio and record a 7 song live album and videos for each release. We have been so focused on recording new material and demoing new songs and realized that sharing snippets and lyrics of this new material is not enough of a thank you for everyone that has stood by us. We believe that everyone deserves to hear and see more from us. After all, we are in an industry that lives and dies by a constant release strategy. We have just finished getting the video edits back and I’m excited to officially announce that we are beginning the releases with our song “Haunts Me.” We hope that this gives our fans an idea of what it’s like to see us live and more importantly a thank you for standing by us and supporting us.
Patrick, Douglas , Andrew, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
We are a band of brothers that decided to take a big chance and go from the farm fields of Upstate New York to the big city of NYC to follow our dreams. The band is made up of twins, Patrick and Douglas, and year younger brother Andrew. Getting into the business of music was as easy as pouring ourselves beers and deciding the world needed to hear what we had to say. Of course, saying and doing are two different things. Fast forward years and years of teaching ourselves how to play instruments, write, sing etc while working on the farm and you can imagine the journey was anything but easy. Our talent is persistence. We don’t give up and our ability to work hard makes up for what we lack in talent. I think that anyone who listens to our music soon realizes pretty quickly that we write about our personal experiences. Through all the good and bad we find ways to express it to the listener and we are very fortunate that people can relate. Universal struggles like rejection, lost love, the desire to be better, wanting more out of life are all things that are not unique to us but common ground that help us and our fans connect. If we are looking at what we are most proud of to date I would have to say having such an amazing support system and fan base. I’d also say having our songs used in the Olympics, FIFA, MLB, NFL, American Idol, World of Dance etc. They are all victories that kept us hungry and inspired us to keep pushing. We are grateful for what we have achieved but feel like we are just beginning.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Being in a creative field is often times tough to explain to people that aren’t. It is not as simple as gauging success by how well you are known or streams or syncs or fans. It is very difficult to spend days working on a song or on a part on your instrument and try to explain to someone that work went amazing. Most people do not understand these small victories in the creative field. This is like an accountant finishing up a big clients taxes. For many they can relate to the accountants accomplishment but when an artist talks about writing or practice they don’t relate it to actual work. I am here to tell you creative fields are full of 24/7 work. Often times the pay is little and is sporadic. Artists might not know when or how much the paycheck will be if they are fortunate to be making money. This weighs so heavily on most and add the fact that most people naturally like to know what it pays and you can easily find yourself very stressed to these questions. But we all love to listen to music and watch tv shows and see great pieces of art and it comes with time and work. I hope society gets a better appreciation for what creatives put into their craft to give to the world.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is having someone relate to the lyrics of your song and have them tell you how much your work means to them. You don’t write songs for accolades but for an individual to choose to listen to your work and then have it resonate and help them in their life, you can’t ask for anything better. You hope when people listen to your music they eventually drift off into this headspace where the music is in the background and providing a soundtrack to help them with their thoughts and feelings.
