We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Patricia Robalino. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Patricia below.
Hi Patricia, thanks for joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
At the age of 19, I left the boutique I opened in Ecuador. My grandfather created Joyeria Valencia and we had 14 family stores and mine was number 15. Since a little girl of 4, when I used to go with my grandfather to work, I would play with the loose stones and pretend to be a jewelry designer. At 19, I took the chance to move to Italy to study design and New York for GIA Certification to pursue my dream of being a jewelry designer. I have never looked back.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Patricia Robalino, I am third generation jeweler from Ecuador and an heir to the Joyeria Valencia jewelry company. I started professionally designing jewelry 32 years ago. I started meeting people in the United States and all around the world, slowly developing a following. After several successful trunk shows at boutiques in America (North, South & Central) and on the prestigious Worth Avenue, I pursued my biggest dream. I moved to Palm Beach and opened a boutique on this incredible street. It has been nine years of an exciting and amazing journey. Seeing woman in Palm Beach and else where wearing my jewelry is the most amazing highlight for me.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Create a product built with integrity and love. Stand behind your product and listen to your customer: what they want.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I remember doing shows where men; who have been the business for ages, would come to me and say you’ll never make it in the jewelry industry because you are a woman. Think of all the names: Harry Winston, David Yurman and Louis Comfort Tiffany of Tiffany & Co. How often do you see a women designer in the past. Now we are becoming power houses in the industry, because we know what women want.
