We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Patricia Hernandez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Patricia below.
Patricia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
Coming to the United States as an immigrant was already a culturally shocking experience for me. However, settling in Atlanta, Georgia, took it to another level. I had envisioned living the American Dream, but as a Latina immigrant, I faced a unique set of obstacles. From a young age, I was conditioned to believe that struggles, financial instability, and societal prejudices were an inevitable part of our lives. But as I embarked on my journey of growth, I realized that these stigmas didn’t define me.
As a single mother, my responsibilities were amplified. Balancing the demands of parenting with the pursuit of my dreams was no small feat. I made sacrifices and faced numerous roadblocks along the way. But amidst these challenges, I discovered a newfound sense of purpose and creativity.
Living in Atlanta and immersing myself in the vibrant community allowed me to learn about diverse cultures and perspectives. I found solace in connecting with fellow creatives and freelancers, who introduced me to a new world of possibilities. It was through this journey that I established PATL.SV, a platform where I could express my multicultural experiences, amplify the voiceless, and challenge stereotypes.
My artistic journey has been a roller coaster ride, filled with critics, self-doubt, and comparisons. But I’ve chosen to view these experiences as valuable lessons rather than deterrents. I see myself as a lifelong learner, continuously evolving and growing as an artist and as an advocate for my community.
In conclusion, I am grateful for the support and love I have received from my community. Together, we can break down borders, shatter expectations, and build a more equitable society that celebrates the diverse voices and contributions of all individuals, regardless of their backgrounds. Is not how much you made as a full-time artist, is about the impact you create among the community, which is a huge earning.

Patricia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My passion extends beyond stationary and stickers. I am deeply involved in the world of mural work, where I find immense joy and fulfillment in transforming blank walls into captivating canvases. Whether it’s public art installations that engage and inspire the community or commercial and residential murals that bring life and vibrancy to spaces, I pour my heart and soul into every brushstroke. My artistic style combines elements of Latin artistry, vibrant colors, and meaningful storytelling, resulting in visually stunning creations that leave a lasting impression.
One of my notable achievements was the “Pieces of Pullman” series, where I had the privilege of painting shipping containers and panels at Pullman Yards. These eye-catching murals not only brought beauty to the surroundings but also served as a celebration of the cultural diversity and rich history of the area. In addition to this, I have collaborated with esteemed organizations such as Living Walls and Midtown Alliance, contributing my artistic vision to enhance urban landscapes and create meaningful connections between art and the community.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
A few years ago, I found myself in a challenging situation as a single mother and aspiring artist. Balancing the responsibilities of raising my children while pursuing my artistic dreams was not an easy task. I faced numerous obstacles, from financial struggles to limited time and resources. However, I was determined to create a better future for myself and my children, and I refused to let circumstances define my journey.
I made a conscious decision to prioritize my passion for art. I dedicated every spare moment to honing my skills, experimenting with different mediums, and pushing the boundaries of my creativity. It wasn’t always easy, as there were moments when self-doubt crept in, and I questioned whether I was on the right path.
I encountered moments of self-discovery and resilience. I discovered the power of embracing vulnerability and expressing my authentic self through my art. I learned to find beauty in imperfections and to use my experiences as a source of inspiration.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I carry with me the lessons learned and the strength gained through my experiences. I am determined to inspire others through my art, to show them that no matter the obstacles they face, resilience and unwavering belief in oneself can lead to a life filled with purpose, growth, and fulfillment. That is the reward this journey has given me.
