We recently connected with Patricia Dorian and have shared our conversation below.
Patricia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you take us back in time to the first dollar you earned as a creative – how did it happen? What’s the story?
This was many years ago, when I first came to Los Angeles. About six months after arriving in LA to pursue a career in acting I was able to sign with an agent. He in turn would send me to auditions and I got
cast as a pregnant young mother. The PSA was about not drinking while pregnant.
I don’t remember how much I got paid, but it was a decent amount.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
As a young girl I remember being fascinated by movies and story telling. My aunt had instilled in me the love of reading. I devoured books during summer break. My favorites were biographies, I also remember reading a lot of Jackie Collins, whoops! When I was in Junior High I made it to the finals with a story I had written about vampires. After that I remember wanting to write about different things.
I took classes in writing and one day while watching t.v. I decided that I would write a 30 minute situation comedy.
I have completed it now after years of re writes. I am currently shopping it around.
The feed back has being very positive.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes! I want to see more stories about Latinos in the media, We as a collective are extremely underrepresented. I believe the number is something like 6% ?! That is ludicrous. After all this was Mexico, before it was lost to the US around 1853. I am glad things are finally changing in media; but we have a long way to go.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
In my opinion, the best we can do to support is actually go to the gallery openings that these creatives invite us to. Buy the vases, paintings etc that they are selling.
Show up to support a play they might be in. Buy a ticket to their movie.
