Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Patricia Desamours. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Patricia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
They thought me to value myself and keep a limitless mindset in regards to my life and my dreams. Most importantly, putting God first in everything I do. Thinking out the box definitely shaped my life and my beauty career. I remember how terrified I was to move to Miami from Montreal and start afresh, my family really supported me and pushed me past my fears and false beliefs. Let’s just say that for Caribbean parents, whatever I do I better do it right.
Patricia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Patricia Desamours, owner of Patricia’s Canvas, a professional and multifaceted makeup service company focusing on beauty and special effects. I also provide makeup classes. I help my clients feel their best, get our their comfort zone and upgrade their makeup skills. My tribe knows me for being a chameleon on the field. From private clients to major festivals or weddings, everything is possible on this side. I’m proud to have a flourishing business in a new city and my very own makeup brand. I’m based out of Miami and available for travel worldwide.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
On a hot summer day, I was feeling quite adventurous and got seriously injured. As I am physically my business, I was forced to be on bedrest for months and it made me reevaluate myself as a person and the woman behind the business. I felt down but decided to get up. I had to lean how to walk again and heal my scars but above everything, I was renewing my physical and mental mindset. It was a challenge but I refused to remain in a state of recovery for long. I reminded myself that I’m a warrior and can overcome anything. I limped then walked again and kept walking faster.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
I’m a dancer at heart. I came out of my mother dancing and through performances, I found makeup. My love for makeup really started by creating stage makeup on myself as a kid and later on team members. I took the school route up to university and still did makeup on the side. I doubled my studies and got certified in makeup. At the time, I had a great banking job that absolutely did not fulfill me and found the guts to transition to the beauty industry. I first gained experience with companies like MAC and Too Faced then word of mouth turned my side hustle into my main. After years of hard work, dedication and serious networking, I’m proud to say I now have a flourishing makeup service company and my own makeup products.
