We caught up with the brilliant and insightful PATRICE Strong-Register a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
PATRICE, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
My current project is the nonprofit that I created in honor of my Mother, Ms. Lillie Strong Braswell. Our Mission is to provide families and communities an opportunity to share their stories and through these stories we capture historical data and everyday experiences that will shape our future and strengthen our family and community connections.
The idea is to create a platform to assist families to identify and learn about their family heritage. The stories, which is the history of the family, are so vital to the legacy of the family and therefore important for people to understand how to pass it on. Stories that Bind Us provides a platform for storytelling, as well as history research and keepsake creation, so that families can document and preserve information pertaining to the family history and lineage. By keeping memories alive it allows each generation to have an idea of who they are and where they come from.
Creating legacy and generational wealth is so important to me because this is how I keep my family legacy going from sharing the stories my mother and grandmother told me.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am the founder and CEO of PLR Services LLC. and a serial entrepreneur. I have an EMBA from Colorado State Tech University. I am a self-motivated, an inspirational thought leader whose problem-solving skills has helped many businesses and forward thinkers to be more productive by giving them timesaving ideas and shaving costs off their bottom line.
While I am heavily involved in my community. I do enjoy spending time with my family, I am a mother of 3 sons and 3 grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews that I adore. I am an aspiring author of “It’s Time for Change, It’s Now or Never” and have another book in mind to celebrate the life of my mother. I love advocating for women and girls and meeting new friends and associates. I also spend time being a mentor for start-up companies and teaching at-risk students life skills. I created a nonprofit in honor of my mother, Stories That Bind Us, Inc. and turned our 112 year old family home, into place to share stories and other historical enrichment activities.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My story is pretty similar to others, but unique as it pertains to me. You see I grew up without a father figure in my life. My mother was not very present in the early years of my life. She worked as an in-home care giver and so I was primarily raised by my grandparents and aunts, until they passed when I was between 13- and 15 years old. At which point, my aunties took over the job of supporting me. We lived in a communal house, which means we had 3-4 families living in one big house at any given time. I say big, because it felt big as a child, it was only 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms and living space with a large front porch and big backyard. I always had to fight for space to be me, I had a dream to become a successful business owner and own my own home and drive a nice car and have a wonderful family. I had all of that, but it was a lot of work and heartache. My husband and I divorced leaving me to care for 3 young children. He was in the military and was always gone. I moved to Arizona and found my way around and built a network. I didn’t know anyone. However, I didn’t let that stop me. I didn’t let the fact that my family and friends were far away and I had no support. I had a job and grew a business on the side, until I went full time into entrepreneurship. I taught my boys about survival in a world that is full of opportunity, but a lot of obstacles. I had to become laser focused and work as I was working unto the Lord and how to make the best of any situation you may find yourself in. I realize that I had to rely on God, myself and self preservation. No one was going to rescue me even if they wanted too. I knew that I was in control of my destiny and I had to create the best plan for my survival.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I have a goal to help as many people as possible to become financially independent and have more time to enjoy what they love to do. Turning passion into profits. and My other goal is to support families by helping to identify their history and be able to create a legacy for the future generations. I am about creating generational wealth.
