We were lucky to catch up with Patrice Petersen recently and have shared our conversation below.
Patrice, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
There’s no straight answer to this question. Success is subjective. What I would say is you must put in the work! Hard work, continued work. In order to be successful, you have to be clear on what the mission/goal is and see it through. You have to be willing to grow from your failures. Success is what you define, but know you will be successful. Fall and get back up!
Patrice, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Patrice Petersen. I was raised in St. Croix, United States Virgin Islands but moved to Maryland in 2012, and started my business, Patreats Boutique, here in 2020. Patreats Boutique started during a time when things were uncertain. I had a lot of time and opportunity to explore new ventures and I came across soapmaking. Think about it, soap, in any form, is essential to our bodies.
What started as a ‘soap shop’ quickly expanded. We now have body oils, body butter, shower steamers, and more. The motto is “enjoy your me time”. Life is busy. A lot is going on simultaneously. I want when people use Patreats Boutique products they can just enjoy what time they do have for themselves.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Right now, Patreats Boutique is still a hobby. I would LOVE to make it a full-time business and I am working on that gradually. I will say, I’ve come a long way from where I thought my business would be. I am currently a Soapmaking Instructor, my products are in stores, and I have a regular clientele. One day at a time but eventually Patreats Boutique will be a full-time business!
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
Loyalty and customer service as a business owner are big for me! I am a social media-based business and also an online store. Connecting with my Treaters is something special to me. I make sure I reach out to my clients and let them know I appreciate them. I offer special promotions, and first-hand access to new products, and send out newsletters.
