We were lucky to catch up with Patience Kaysee Saydee recently and have shared our conversation below.
Patience Kaysee, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, let’s imagine that you were advising someone who wanted to start something similar to you and they asked you what you would do differently in the startup-process knowing what you know now. How would you respond?
If I were to start over, I would select a different major in undergraduate studies. I chose generic majors because I was misinformed that I needed a certain major to attend law school. However, you can enter law school with any major. I would have chosen to major in a field like Engineering or Information Technology. Those majors would have allowed me to be a better candidate in the work field and be able to specialize directly out of law school. If so, I could have been further in my career in less time. Thus, whenever I advise students who want to go to law school, I encourage them to pick a practical major that is in demand in the work field and/or something they are genuinely interested in or passionate about. That way, they can always have a plan B and/or specialize in a field out of law school.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
I am an attorney in metro-Atlanta. I handle civil cases primarily in immigration and real estate law. I have owned my own firm for about three (3) years. I enjoy the ability to choose my own cases and clients. The most rewarding aspect of my work is getting my clients their ideal results. What sets me apart from others is that I advise my clients on all available options no matter what. I believe in giving my clients the whole picture at the onset of representation so that there are no surprises. I am not interested in only billables and fees. I provide the best solutions for my clients’ needs. My clients appreciate my honesty and candor.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What helped build my reputation was my professionalism. I believe in treating all my clients in a professional manner even if I know them personally. My clients are assured that I take my profession and attorney oath very seriously and would never do anything to jeopardize my license and confidentiality of my clients.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
I get referrals from previous and current clients. I also get business from legal pre-paid insurance companies.
