We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Pat Marek. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Pat below.
Hi Pat , thanks for joining us today. Can you share a story about the kindest thing someone has done for you and why it mattered so much or was so meaningful to you?
I was fortunate to have many extraordinary mentors throughout my life. Most of them were teachers who inspired me and urged me to pursue my passion, seeking bliss and meaning. Their altruistic kindness, dedication, and encouragement gave me purpose, saving me on numerous occasions.
Among them was a particularly inspiring elderly teacher who would sit with me after class, sharing remarkable stories and deep-rooted wisdom. Her genuine care for me along with numerous other mentors was the kindest gesture anyone had ever shown.

Pat , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve been certain about pursuing creativity since I was a kid. This choice, this pursuit, is something innate, and I’m not trying to sound mysterious about it. I’m constantly inquisitive, and I believe this keeps my work evolving. Working in chapters, shifting themes and materials, is what keeps my followers interested and sets my work apart from others.
My most recent series, ‘Human By Accident,’ has revolved around heavier themes I’ve been hesitant to share. I have to say, this is my proudest moment because it was an accumulation of 15 years of work into a solo show and book. It was the most personal work I’ve created, and I witnessed viewers connect to it in a truly genuine way.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most gratifying aspect of what I do is hearing from people who are inspired by my work. Knowing that complete strangers connect with or are inspired by my work is the highest reward.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn the idea of creating solely for myself. In the past, I believed that a true artist shouldn’t consider anything outside of their own vision. I lacked interest in engaging with the audience, and my approach was largely improvised. I thought that being a hermit and working solely for myself was the epitome of authenticity. However, I now strive to genuinely communicate with viewers and evoke a response. I’ve come to realize that my most authentic work is aimed at engaging and being shared.
