Pat, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
When I was growing up my father liked to cook and he was a good cook. Whenever he cooked something that was really good he would say “C’est Bon” which in French means “ it’s good” and it met get to the kitchen quickly, if you want to eat. When I started my company I wanted to honor both of my parents and so C’est Bon Seasoning was born.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got started in the industry because I love cooking. I would cook dishes and I was always asked for the recipe that I would gladly share, but the the feedback was that it didn’t taste the same and I was asked for the seasoning I used, so I would give it away. One day my cousin said I’m tired of calling you for the recipe can you just put it in a bottle and so the seasoning was born.
My seasoning addresses a need in the market for individuals that can’t add salt to their diet or others that want a healthy choice. Those individuals want flavor without having salt and sugar in their seasoning. C’est Bon Seasoning addresses that void.
I am most provide that I started this company without experience in the industry and with limited funds that came from me and that was almost 10 years ago and I’m still here. My proudest moment was seeing my product on the grocery store shelves with my mothers name and my fathers name on my product.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
It was hard being an unknown in the seasoning business. I heard a lot of no, but I believed in my product and pressed on. There were days that I climbed in bed and thought about quitting, but I somehow I always go up and I attribute that to my faith.
Now, my product is on store shelves.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn that you are you product isn’t good enough and the you have no idea what you are doing. The way that I have unlearned this lesson is by imaging what would I tell someone like me and going through the up’s and downs of a new business and I replaced the unlearned with the growing knowledge of what has been learned.
