We recently connected with Pascha Oliver and have shared our conversation below.
Pascha, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
The Breathing Zone started from a simple conversation over 9 years ago. The lord brought back to my heart, the need of people who are experiencing so many transitions in life. The progression of idea to launching the ministry and preparing for our first conference was easy, once I accepted WHO God said I am. It requires focus, vision and risk taking. Whenever facing a new challenge such as starting a business, I suggest writing down the process it will take to get to your goal. Even if there’s a new step that you don’t have the language or answer for.
The conversation that planted the seed of The Breathing Zone, was my friend appreciating the safe space I created for her to vent to me. It pulled on my emotions and heartstrings and also opened my eyes to a lot of God’s children that are shying away from his peace, joy and goodness because of what we are facing. I told her over 10 years ago that I would create a space and appointed time for his people to reap the benefits of him being such a caring, good father. Then I was called to start the ministry and host our first event. This manifestation of God’s promise, came forth after prayer, focus and research into starting TBZ.
The following months of starting TBZ was stretching, challenging and seeing how strong I was. We can handle what comes for us, when we remember, no one is perfect, the ones who speak well of your character, will not be the ones who supports you. I want to remind that it is okay I had to step into smaller storms.
God called me and appointed me as a leader, no matter how I seen myself. My biggest encouragement for anyone who is starting a business/organization/ministry is to OWN IT. You’ve come up with the plan and mission and started to make progress, then OWN what you are doing and make no apologies for that.
Pascha, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Of course, my name is Pascha’ Oliver and I gave my entire being to Jesus Christ. I walked into a church 2 1/2 years ago and I decided that I wouldn’t give any excuses to God because of fear, distrust and not quite understanding my kingdom purpose and identity. After being grounded and rooted in teaching, volunteering, developing a prayer life and having a heart yielded to God’s commission, that’s when The Breathing Zone was started. Being in ministry is having a heart to help people.
Our mission is, to remind God’s people of the access they have to his keeping, sustaining and delivering power. God wants to connect us back to his promises and allow him to revitalize us at times of weakness and uncertainty.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
In business/ministry there is a blueprint. Even if you are starting something that is special and unique and one of it’s kind, there’s a plan and process you can follow and it will help. BUT the biggest thing that I’ve also had to accept and unlearn is, my journey HAS to follow this particular Blue print and process. I wanted to ask other people exactly what to do and how to plan The Breathing Zone but in reality, God’s spirit was teaching me and walking me through this process.
My main point is, BALANCE. Allow others process and journey, help you on yours. It’s not the end all be all.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Strategy in ministry is different than the business world but the most effective way to grow it, is a heart that believes in what you are doing.
