We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Party Favors. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Party below.
Party, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
We just jumped into it and weren’t afraid to make mistakes and learn in an organic way. We aren’t sure if there is anything we could or want to have done to speed up our process. If we had a number one hit when we started we would not have been ready. We believe everything happens in it’s own time and reasoning so we know we’re exactly where we are supposed to be at any given time. Learning to let go of control and to allow things to happen naturally has not only helped in our creative process but our overall approach to life. Also, persistence and following your unique creative spark is key. Everyone is unique one of a kind and that is our greatest asset.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We are queer pop music recording artists, Party Favors. A Singer-songwriter couple writing songs inspired by life, love, and celebrating their journey to the stars along the way. Our passion lies in live performance, song creating, lyric writing, and art making. We dabble in new wave pop music with unbound creative expression.
We all are stars in our own way, you just have to find what makes you shine and then OWN IT completely. For us, it’s music and performing live. Growing up queer made music that much more important to us both. It provided a voice to the feelings we couldn’t explain and to the ones we were too afraid to express. Now, we are owning our own voices to heal and to help.
Inspired by a wide range of artists and genres from the late 90s and early/mid 2000s to today, we aim to follow our creative bliss with freedom to explore wherever it may take us. We tend to mostly have fun with dance music, but have released several acoustic projects since our beginning in 2016. Similar artists that Party Favors could appear on a playlist with include Kylie Minogue, Lady Gaga, Kim Petras, Maude Latour, Troye Sivan, Sam Smith, Alaska 5000, and Trixie Matel.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
We both grew up as people pleasers and genuinely enjoy going above and beyond for the people who support us. However, we’ve had to realize that not everyone works with the best intentions in mind and we’ve had to learn how to not overextend ourselves. Following what feels right for us instead of following trends is another important lesson learned and the advice we’d give to other artists.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
We want to honor following our own dreams of creating art through music, media , and live performance. While on this journey we are learning so much about ourselves and with our music and live performances we want to encourage others to follow their dreams and love themselves fully.
