Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Parker Stiles. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Parker, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
There are many thoughts and words that come to mind when trying to answer this question. For one, success requires a multitude of skills and personality traits in various categories. There are many different types of success to consider. Success can be defined numerous ways, by different people. However, if I had to pick one word that stands out to me above the rest, it would be persistence. Which prior to someone’s success, can be camouflaged as stubbornness, or being naïve, to surrounding family & friends. This can be very painful and/or discouraging to “go getters” in their early stages of success. It is fair to say, riding the line of being persistent, or truly stuck on an idea that is not going to pan out, is truly a blurred one. A gray area to say the least. But being persistent with one idea, is no doubt better than jumping from idea to idea without seeing anything through.
Some foolproof knowledge that I learned from an old mentor of mine (Matt Theriault, owner of Epic Real Estate Investing, & many other companies) was to closely follow only the people that HAVE what you want. Don’t stop there though. If you have a vision for what you want to do, you need to find the people who have what you want, & got there by doing exactly what you plan to do. Then pay them to show you the blue print and help along the way. This takes much of the guesswork out of the equation, leaving you to soak up as much as possible, then go apply it! As Matt very clearly used to put it:
1. Learn step A.
2. DO step A.
3. Learn step B.
4. DO step B.
Etc, etc..

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Parker Stiles, and I am the owner of Barrington Acquisitions. My company helps home owners liquidate their properties in record time, with none of the traditional hassle you see in many transactions.. In its simplicity, it’s the “easy button” for property owners who want to sell. We work with everyone from motivated sellers who need to close quickly, to property owners that just don’t want to fool with jumping through all the necessary hoops of a retail transaction. Another common occurrence is property that is too distressed to be sold on the retail market, and would not qualify for any type of financing due to it’s condition.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
I started this operation back in 2015 when hearing about the idea of “flipping houses” on a podcast! At the time I was working for a commercial real estate company as an agent in the industrial field. I was very green, & fresh out of college. I knew it was going to take me about 3 years to create a 6 figure income for myself, which was a current goal. Being the impatient person that I am, I started looking for “side hustles.”
My father, his father, and his father before him were all real estate entrepreneurs. Therefore, I knew I wanted to make my money in real estate, but I had no idea how! In regards to real estate, there are so many different avenues. From residential retail agents, to investors, to commercial, multi-family, land flipping, development, etc. It was overwhelming! So I got my license and took a job at this commercial agency to get my feet wet.
About 4 months in I discovered this podcast called Epic Real Estate Investing by Matt Theriault. I really liked the no BS approach it had to the teaching, and it was full of appliable nuggets I could take home with me. I took the advise of learn Step A, then do Step A, learn Step B, then do Step B. Meaning I applied, as I learned. Fast forward 3-4 months later, I had a discouraging meeting with my boss, that I was being let go. I had never been a good employee, but this was really frustrating, and not good timing. Afterall, this “side hustle” was far from making me any money…
I took it as a sign, and burned all the boats. This was how I was going to make my future, and I left NO room for another option. As I say to people all the time, if you have an easy plan B, when plan A gets tough, you will most likely course correct much too early to see your success play out.
It was an emotional, rough, bumpy first few years, but 5 years in, my team and I grossed our first million. In year 7 (most recent – 2021) we hit $1,850,000, and have a plan to hit $2.34MM in year 8. My current main focus is building a study, trustworthy team around me that will allow this company to continue to grow and flourish, with little of my personal interaction, so I can focus on growing other recently created companies.

How’d you meet your business partner?
I met my business partner back a long time ago… In college.. And made her my wife! Haha, all jokes aside, working with your wife is a very rewarding experience, that does not come without its challenges. I love being able to share ideas with her, unwind about business with her later in the evenings, and get another perspective on all the things I am doing. However it requires you to be very intentional when it comes to “personal time” away from work. This becomes even more difficult when you both work from home. It’s difficult to see the boundaries. You have to draw lines between work time and personal time. We are very intentional about having date nights pre-entered into our calendar so we make time for them. Sometimes, yes, we do talk about work on our date nights. But on others we make it a point to push it to the side. For us, our business is our baby, and it’s in it’s most important growth stages right now. Before too long, “actual” babies will take that place, and conversations will shift.
The conclusion of all this is, I love working with my wife, and as long as you are intentional about setting boundaries, the pros outweigh the cons for us! Plus you don’t have to split all the profits with someone outside of the family!
