Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Parker DeKubber. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Parker, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Prime Edge Media’s mission is to become the undeniable leader and authority in video marketing across the nation, whilst changing the way business owners think about content marketing forever…
We are working toward this by providing them with a team who cares just as much about their own success as they do, and know they will be 100% transparent with them on everything from goals, to expectations, to results.
This is an incredibly important mission to me personally, because I have been on both sides of the content marketing and content agency spectrum. I have been scammed by plenty of agencies in the last few years promising us the world, but merely delivering an atlas.
These are the same companies who will charge tens of thousands of dollars because they have big fancy cinema cameras, but have no interest in what the content is actually going to do for their clients.
Which means for those without a high level in-house marketing department, they essentially set 15K on fire for a pretty 2 minute video no one is ever going to watch.
And the worst part is…
As soon as this happens, these companies just assume that video marketing is useless, and doesn’t work because they hired who they thought were the best of the best because of what they charged…
When in reality, they just didn’t know where to look and wound up hiring a cinematographer rather than a video marketing team.
This is why it is our mission to pull the curtain back on these agencies, and show the nations’ business builders how to deploy video marketing correctly in tandem with their goals, and the sheer power that correctly utilized, and strategized video marketing content really has.
Parker, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Parker DeKubber, I am 21 years old, and I run Prime Edge Media, a video marketing agency based in West and South Central Michigan, currently serving the east coast.
I got into video when I was 16. At the time, I wanted to be a full time YouTuber on the side, creating content about my bowling career, as I planned to go on the pro tour after college. But when COVID first came around was when I really started taking things seriously because of all the extra free time I had. Overtime I became obsessed with documentaries, from the cinematography, to how the storyline was written.
I became inspired to make my own feature length documentary. Then in April of 2020, I began “Parker DeKubber Productions”, and created my first feature documentary with my phone, on my father and his bowling career.
From there, a local bowling center owner and friend of mine saw the documentary and asked me to shoot a promo video for his bowling center for $800. I couldn’t believe anyone would ever pay me for my content, let alone a weeks pay at my job at the time!
From then on, I was hooked on creating paid content like weddings, music videos, small businesses, etc…
But as I started working with more entrepreneurs, I ran into the exact same objection by everyone I reached out to… “So what’s your guarantee if I don’t make a full return on my investment?”.
It was so confusing at the time because I didn’t realize all these business owners had been swindled by a videographer, or marketer at one time or another, and were worried they were going to get scammed.
From then on, I was determined to create an ethical company that was so transparent, you couldn’t NOT trust us.
Thus, Prime Edge Media was born.
We tell people to think of Prime Edge as their in-house video marketing department. Because one big issue business owners have with our industry is videographers and content marketers tend to work on a project by project basis, so there really isn’t any cohesiveness for their client’s brands, and the clients don’t ever seem to feel like they got their money’s worth.
So we decided to adapt to our client’s companies internally, so that we didn’t disrupt the function of the business like they would have to for a vendor, by connecting to their staff slack channels and group chats, etc.
As far as our product goes, we produce a plethora of different types of videos…
But the vast majority are organic social media reels and shorts, with a focus on building the awareness of our client’s brands, and allow them to attract their ideal clients rather than chasing them.
Honestly, I think what sets us apart from the rest of our competitors, is twofold…
Our transparency, as well as our commitment to our client’s success, without the huge ad spend cushioning price tag or crazy risk reversal guarantee.
We also stay in our lane as far as what we promise, so we can always overdeliver.
Not to mention, we care so much about our clients, and spreading video marketing’s best practices, we have customized SOP’s for the distribution of their content, and we also have a free Facebook group anyone can join, called “Video Marketing Secrets For Local Businesses”, where we teach business owners under our 500K – 5M/yr target client range how to do their own video marketing, using our free trainings.
This year we are also launching a video marketing mastery consultation offer, as well as workshops, where those below 500K/yr can pay me to consult with them, and pay a fraction of the price of what it would cost for our team to do it.
And honestly I think that’s also what I’m most proud of. Our commitment to the mission I set out.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Honestly, I think there are several factors that have played into us building our reputation.
The main way we get clients is through our social media content. In fact, we use the exact same strategy to market ourselves as we do our clients.
I also very heavily believe in giving away so much value and entertainment in our content that our prospects nearly feel obligated to work with us once they reach our ideal client level, simply because they trust us, and know we are going to deliver even more, because of all the free help we’ve already provided.
We are also incredibly transparent and authentic, not just with our clients, but our prospects as well. If you aren’t confident that we can provide you the result you’re looking for, we don’t push. The last thing we want is for people to feel uncomfortable or pressured into a partnership with us.
In addition to our transparency we also have a confidence guarantee which basically says if you’re not confident that what we deliver is going to get you the results you want, we work with you for free until you are as confident as we are.
Has that cost us quite a bit of money and man hours in the past? Absolutely.
But it’s because of our transparency and dedication to providing world class results that I am able to sleep well at night, and market our company knowing wholeheartedly that we are one of the good companies that business owners can count on to deliver every time, and care just as much about their project as they do.
Furthermore, I think we are one of very few companies in our industry that are so concerned with our clients winning, that we are not afraid to openly call ourselves out if we made an error in judgement around a topic, such as how to structure a certain type of video to get a specific result.
We are also NOT one of those companies that swears by their method as the ONLY way to help their clients. We totally understand that video marketing is just one of the seemingly infinite ways to get clients, and while it may work for every business, if it isn’t the best way to help a prospect reach their goals, we tell them that, and try our best to point them in the right direction.
I think all of the above combined has had a major contribution to the development of our current reputation.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
We first built our social media audience on Facebook with our free group called Video Marketing Secrets For Local Businesses…
We used that group, in tandem with daily posts in the group and on my personal profile, manually sending friend requests/invites, and warm outreach to those in the group to get our first few clients from social media.
From there, we expanded to every social media platform, and did the same.
What I would highly suggest to anyone to start building their own audience are the following…
1. Start with ONE platform and master it. Ideally this is the platform you like using the most
2. ONLY create content that speaks directly to the problems that your ideal client is dealing with, and address them directly.
3. Post as much as you possibly can to get in front of as many eyeballs as possible
4. Create content that genuinely solves a problem for your ideal client, and demonstrates without a doubt that you can help them
5. Create “Lead magnets” with information that does the above, but in a different medium, such as a PDF, email newsletter, YouTube video, etc.
Do this at least weekly, and use the asset as a conversation starter.
6. Join our group and learn how to create content that actually converts.
