We were lucky to catch up with Paris Miller recently and have shared our conversation below.
Paris, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you tell us about a time where you or your team really helped a customer get an amazing result?
I recently had the privilege of working with a client who found me via Instagram. She explained to me that she had been a victim of over-plucking her eyebrows for years and the hair stopped growing back. This made her self-conscious and added stress and time to her morning routine trying to pencil them in every day. I gladly took her as a client and was ready to help build the eyebrows she wanted. I prepared for weeks before the appointment- with very thin eyebrows, I almost had a blank canvas and knew everything had to be just right. We worked together and created an eyebrow shape that complimented her facial features, and after 3 hours I was ready to hand her the mirror. She was exuding with pure happiness, and exclaimed how much this was going to boost her self-confidence. Her reaction and what it meant to her is exactly why I got into this industry, to help people feel their best self.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am a cosmetic tattooer at Sacrament Tattoo in Austin, TX. I currently offer microblading (and am planning to learn and offer more services in the near future). Microblading is a semi-permanent tattoo that can enhance, define, and fill out your eyebrows. They are your brows but better! Whether its adding a little more fluff, making them look even throughout, or creating a new brow, I like helping my clients achieve the subtle details that might seem minor but will make them feel their best selves. I had originally thought about getting into permanent makeup in late 2020. I was working at a tattoo supply company after not being able to bartend due to the COVID restrictions at the time. I always checked out the products we carried and chatted with the permanent makeup artists who would come in to buy supplies. Fast forward to summer 2021, I was back to bartending a few days a week. Sacrament Tattoo was hiring for a counter person, and I had been getting tattooed there ever since I moved to Austin in 2017, so it felt like the perfect second gig. Ultimately that led to me taking the plunge into cosmetic tattooing, and I completed a microblading certification program at Fresh Cosmetics Studio. Given the opportunity to work alongside some incredibly talented artists within my Sacrament family, I am continually motivated to improve my craft. We pride ourselves on a welcoming environment, and it is a dream to be able to work with my clients in this atmosphere. I have worked incredibly hard to go from jobs that paid the bills to a career I wanted to pursue, and it’s been an honor to work with every client I’ve had so far.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
In the beginning of 2022 I was bartending and working counter at Sacrament Tattoo. At this point, cosmetic tattooing was on my radar and something I kept talking about doing, but hadn’t taken the plunge yet. I ended up sustaining a severe ankle injury and had to undergo surgery, months of bedrest, and ultimately relearning how to walk. This injury took me out of bartending as quick as it happened, and at the time felt like my world was falling apart, although now I feel like it was something that needed to happen. Two months after surgery, I was able to go back to Sacrament, and used my scooter to get around and complete my work tasks. It was in this healing period that I knew it was time to take the leap. I talked to my bosses at Sacrament, Chris Aragon and Barry Barthelemy, and they were very supportive and excited for this endeavor. As soon as I was able to walk again I enrolled in a microblading course. Going through that injury ended up giving me the time to slow down and pursue a career in cosmetic tattooing.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The goal is they should leave their session loving their new eyebrows, but also the time they spent with me. I know getting microblading done can be scary to some, and they are trusting me to get it right. I like to set them at ease, get them a beverage (non-alcoholic, since alcohol thins the blood!), and talk them through the process. I’m very personable, and love getting to know my clients, which is easy to do in the 3 hours we spend together. It is a privilege to be pursuing my craft, and as I build my business I am striving to deliver the best experience possible.
