Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Paris Holmes. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Paris, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
My most meaningful project has to be completing my first feature film script entitled “Lust Angeles” This was a script that took me a little over 7 years to complete. It was much easier to write when I wasn’t busy freelancing as a cinematographer and gaffer. Other people’s work just got in the way and I ended up pushing it to the side. I feel like it worked out for the better because I got better at writing and came up with a much cooler story plot.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m an artist at heart whether I’m making a film or making a song. I grew up focusing on playing football but was always good at drawing and writing stories. There was a film I skipped football practice to see called Friday Night Lights. It was a football movie with Derek Luke acting in it as Boobie Miles. But there’s a scene where he’s in the car with his father after coming back from getting a MRI and being told he couldn’t play football anymore. He was crying and saying that he couldn’t do anything else but play football. I was moved by that scene and it made me ask myself what would I do if I couldn’t play football? I made sure I would have a backup plan and that backup plan is now my passion which is filmmaking.
I have a production company where my focus is producing narratives and music videos but I also provide video lighting services. That’s been my bread and butter. I worked on a lot of cool projects as a gaffer.
What sets me apart from others is that I am capable of wearing multiple hats.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I believe that film locations are difficult to get and believe that business owners can be more film friendly for the local artists and creatives.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a filmmaker is making up a story that moves people towards changing for the better and knowing that I’m leaving my artwork behind.
